"polished" is a dangerous term here.

I'd say if all you've seen of them are the two interviews, you can't compare the two as they are entirely different rhetorical situations. Kim English was in a formal press conference and answering a question from the press. Tony Skinn was in an informal podcast interview with a former assistant coach talking shop. Entirely two different situations.
That’s fair.

It sure seems like there's smoke to the Kim English name.

I'm holding out for somebody like Kelsey or Williford, but if we're going to go the "roll the dice on a young guy and hope we get him before the world realizes how good he is" route, English seems like a fine gamble.

Not news, but interesting take from Tony Basilio, a Knoxville sports radio guy:

Kim English Final NCAA Tournament With Vols?

Many college hoops national recruiting types such as Jeff Goodman are linking English with the opening at George Mason. This makes tremendous sense on a couple of levels. For one thing English is from that area as he has DC ties. The second piece to the puzzle is that Rick Barnes is apparently very revered there still. His first coaching job was at George Mason. This is very good opportunity for Kim English should they turn to him.

Spot on here. If this guy comes and leaves in 3 years it'll be because he took Mason to the dance on the way to a Power 5 school.

This shouldn't be a 5 year plan with how the NCAA environment is these days. Maybe it takes Mason a little longer because...well its Mason, but even so.

Basilio is fairly reliable, especially on the basketball side. I've inquired with the VolQuest guys.

Hopefully we can keep him around a little longer a la Shaka Smart so if he does get us back to the dance he can also solidify the program going forward. A good 5-7 years and off to a great P5 job.

It really is a low-risk scenario for him. He's 32 years old. If he crushes it, he'll have a P5 job waiting (maybe even Mizzou, which I'm assuming would be a dream job for him.) If he fails, he'll still be in his thirties. Can go back to being an assistant like others have done and wait for his next opportunity.

And he has a ton of connections to this area already. Not like we’re hiring another guy who doesn’t know the DMV and has to build a recruiting network out of thin air. He should be able to hit the ground running very quickly.

I hope that the next coach is so successful that he leaves for a power conference job. But, I look at Mason's track record since I became a fan, and I'm not very confident:

Ernie Nestor - Fired after 5 seasons (1 NCAA appearance)
Paul Westhead - Fired after 4 seasons
Jim Larranaga - Highly successful and left for Miami
Paul Hewitt - Fired after 4 seasons
Dave Paulsen - Fired after 6 seasons

I would like this post but I think it belongs in the “Hate” thread instead :D

Hewitt was fired on March 16, 2015, and Paulsen was hired on March 30.
To add a data point to this, Paulsen was available as early as 3/18, the day of the last Bucknell game that year. Now, the whole drama with the cry baby from California may have delayed things that time, so who knows if the last time has any relationship to this time. It may just be that we are waiting for a certain someone to finish out his year.

On an unrelated note, and even though it will mess up my bracket a little bit, I have started leaning towards an Oregon St. win in the first round of the tourney.

Lets hope this would change with English or whoever shows up!
