Someone remind me: Did anyone on this board lead their Alma mater to the Final Four and then return that program to the top of their conference as a coach? Tony doesn’t owe me or anyone else on this board anything. Coaches interview for jobs all the time, you’d be a fool not to. Some of you guys and your holier than thou BS is beyond hypocritical.

Yes, for me, it's the "there's no place like home" schtick. There's got to be something to a man's word. I could be wrong, but if Tony doesn't leave it won't be because he wanted to stay, but because UMD didn't want him to come.
Do you live in the real world? Have you ever been offered double your salary? I know this might be a foreign concept, but circumstances and emotions can change. I don't think any of what the guy has done is schtick, it's just what he has felt at the time. But go ahead, keep clutching your pearls and believing you wouldn't be influenced by any material objects. You know there is a world where different things can be true at the same time. The admin could have done their job, Tony loves the school, the job, the fans, etc and he's offered the opportunity of a lifetime that he can't turn down. As much as I have disdain for MD, I get the allure. Honestly, they're in a similar position to us a few years ago and it might be why they go with an alum like Simpkins, but if they did want Tony and he left, you're not gonna see me call him a traitor or villify him. The world, unlike some people believe, is not a black and white place. It's various shades of gray all of the time.

So wouldn't that mean TXA&M wants him to leave and is making it easier for him to do so? Perhaps leave for College Park...
its baked into the contract he signed 3 years ago. Most coaches have a sliding scale that as they go on in tenure, their buyout reduces. A&M doesn't exactly want him to stay, he's worn out his welcome but Maryland doesn't seem to really want him either.

It is a contract clause (like many coaches have) that his buyout drops on April 1st. Willard had a similar clause at MD, but obviously that didn't make it to today.

But to your point, I believe that Kentucky either waived or reduced Calipari's buyout last season so he could go to Arkansas and KY could start fresh.
