You recognize that Iona got to hire Pitino because he was still dealing with the scandal that got him canned at Louisville right?

Also, Jackson hasn't coached in a decade, and JVG hasn't been a head coach in nearly two. Not only would they not want to come here, but I have no doubt they'd be disaster hires at this level.

A more legitimate list would've been guys like Rob Jones, Luke Murray, etc.
WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP RESPONDING TO 2011WINOVERVILLANOVA?! Use the ignore button!

Did you see any games that Paul Hewitt ever coached? He definitely forgot how to coach lol.

Also, try to remember to be kind to each other.

I’m pretty sure we saw the same things at Mason that they saw at GT. The difference is he had NBA level talent there who could mask his ineffectiveness as a coach.

He did usually have a pretty good game plan but he was absolute shite at adjustments (literally made zero). And every time I saw a practice it was so lackadaisical I knew that attitude would carry over into games (practice like you play).

At the risk of angering Verdad ;), I'll respond. I don't think the issue is with forgetting how to coach. I see two main potential issues with hiring an old, out of practice coach:
1. Being a college coach in the last 4 years has changed dramatically. With the portal and NIL/revenue share, a college coach has to possess GM like capabilities to be successful now
2. Related to that, age could be an issue. It seems like it might take even more energy for a head coach and that tends to fade with age. We have seen many old school coaches retire in the last couple years when they realized they couldn't hack it under the current paradigm.

This seems to be what’s happening with Schmidt post-free transfer era. A guy who thrived on keeping a roster together for four years and developing players for his style, not really able to maintain the same level of success needing to turn over his roster every year.
