Yeswill a coach be named before we have an AD? That seems backwards and a bad position to be doing business in.
It’s not ideal but we have no other choice at this point. We have to have a new coach ASAP.will a coach be named before we have an AD? That seems backwards and a bad position to be doing business in.

Exactly! TOC didn’t hire Larranaga but had no problem taking credit for his success.Wouldn’t this only be an issue if whoever we hire doesn’t do well? English was going to get a new AD that didn’t hire him either.
As an added bonus I assume Tony has strong ties to the pipeline of talent coming out of Nigeria.
Actually, Tom O'Connor DID hire Larranaga. TOC arrived at Mason in 1994, Larranaga in 1997.Exactly! TOC didn’t hire Larranaga but had no problem taking credit for his success.
No, he deserves your scorn.I stand corrected. Maybe I shouldn’t dislike TOC as much as I do.
Here's the washington post coverage on hiring Coach L:Actually, Tom O'Connor DID hire Larranaga. TOC arrived at Mason in 1994, Larranaga in 1997.
I know many fault O'Connor for Larranaga's departure, but indeed he was instrumental in bringing him here in the first place, despite it essentially being a lateral move for Coach L (Bowling Green/MAC to Mason/CAA).
Relatedly, I remember President Merten saying that hiring Coach L was the best hire during his tenure and indicating that the other (apparently) assistant coaches being considered had "never called a time out".
We got him from BG by paying $20k more. Times have changed. Here's the washington post coverage on hiring Coach L:
I heard also that he was unhappy at BG...promises not kept by administrators, I think. We got him from BG by paying $20k more. Times have changed.
It’s the same with recruiting “commitments”… esp in the NIL era we’re in. “I’m 100% committed!…. This week…”It's generational thing. In my day when you got a job and signed a contract you honored it. You negotiated AFTER your commitment was filled. My how times have changed.
LotsSo how many times a day is everyone refreshing Twitter and Masonhoops a day waiting for news to drop?
I have been hooked on both since the rumors of Lil Kimmie leaving.
Amen! It's generational thing. In my day when you got a job and signed a contract you honored it. You negotiated AFTER your commitment was filled. My how times have changed.
