I dropped twitter so am relying on ypu guys for fair and accurate reporting!

I haven’t heard anything’s been finalized with anyone yet. Assuming that what I was told originally…. That early this coming week is a realistic time to hear something

Actually, Tom O'Connor DID hire Larranaga. TOC arrived at Mason in 1994, Larranaga in 1997.

I know many fault O'Connor for Larranaga's departure, but indeed he was instrumental in bringing him here in the first place, despite it essentially being a lateral move for Coach L (Bowling Green/MAC to Mason/CAA).

Relatedly, I remember President Merten saying that hiring Coach L was the best hire during his tenure and indicating that the other (apparently) assistant coaches being considered had "never called a time out".

I have heard in the past from someone that was part of the hiring committee when Larranaga was hired and L was NOT TOCs pick. He wanted to bring in some buddy, I think from SBU. TOC was forced to hire L instead.

So feel free to continue hating him without reservation.

If we go with an Odom - I think there is a significant chance he pulls a Jimmy English on us and leaves in 2 years.

The mere fact that Odom will have just left Utah State (if we hire him) after taking that job only two short years ago tells you all you need to know about how long we can expect him to stay at Mason if he wins.

Unless Mason is willing to come over the top of USF’s offer and shove all its chips into the center of the table for Odom, looks like he’s going to take that job.

Can’t believe Mason has the money to both beat USF’s offer and pay the 1.2M buyout for Odom. Or more importantly, I can’t believe they truly want to.

It should be Tony- he checks every box.

Can’t believe Mason has the money to both beat USF’s offer and pay the 1.2M buyout for Odom. Or more importantly, I can’t believe they truly want to.

Kim’s buyout would cover all but $200,000 of Odom’s, and based on the last-ditch offer to Kim, Mason has the money to offer Odom a substantial raise if it wants to do so.

But I agree, it’s Tony’s time.

He’s making $475,000 at Maryland. Double that is $950,000, or $25,000 more than KE was making.
