Again, if he's the guy, east coast recruiting seems to be the biggest area of concern to me. Hopefully he lands and assistant or two who can help in that area.

Here's some great news: In UC Irvine's 2-point loss to Louisville in this year's NCAAT, he only called three timeouts the entire game — all of which were in the second half. In fact, he called one of those with 1 minute left and the other with 43 seconds left.

Who knew a team could still have timeouts left with less than 4 minutes left in a game?

"Turner has most recently been considered a candidate for jobs at California, Rice, Wake Forest and Tulsa. His overall coaching record is 71-67."

So he has been looking to upgrade, and the east coast too.......

Question is are we enough of an upgrade?

If he worked for Dave Odom and Mike Montgomery, I'd say he knows his X's and O's. Also important, he's worked with some good big men. And will have Thompson up next.

I do like that he took over a bad team at UC Irvine and turned it around. It took him 3 years, but it came around.

To me, the only question with Turner is: Can he keep the roster intact and the recruits (Gilbert) from seeking greener pastures?

I know for a fact that Moton can. With his background and ability to relate to kids, he'd have Gilbert and his family eating out of the palm of his hand within 5 minutes.

Turner certainly has an impressive resume. Will that be enough?

I need a GOOD coach right now more than I need Gilbert. Either seems to work, but I wouldn't choose Moton just because he might have less defections.

similar to what Brian said, looks like he really turned around a bad program with little to no winning tradition. Also like that fact that he's coached at so many places with several good basketball minds. I really just hope if he's the guy that we start playing fundamental basketball and it doesn't always look like the other teams is more prepared.

With KA here. Defections might be good on back-to-back 20-loss teams. In 2011 we worried because we had a good thing we didn't want ruined. That's not the case this time around.

I agree, but key is making sure they're the "right" defections.

If we lose Mayimba or Gilbert, I'm gonna be pissed no matter who the coach is. Those kids are critical to us eventually having the athleticism and length on the wing to be a top-shelf A-10 team.

Chances are Mayimba is gone anyway and not becuase of Hewitt leaving......just sayin.
