Brad needs to hurry and pull the trigger

If Scott Cherry isn't a candidate, I'm not sure why.
Agreed. I hope they have a guy that is guaranteed to accept, someone possibly like Cherry, waiting in the wings in case we are getting played by our "reach" candidates.

I hope we aren't walking down our ladder of candidates so slowly that the next one has already dropped by the time we get to him.

My gut feeling tells me BBB and the Matador have plans, but they are on paper and unapproved. Given our past, what candidate is gonna feel like we are REALLY going to put money where our drawings are?

Hewitt, the gift that keeps on giving... Before he destroyed us, we were a much more desirable destination.

I would have thought being in the multi-bid league and that we aren't too far removed from decent success would be a big attraction. I guess being a bottom feeder in the A10 and having what may appear to be a major rebuild may not be as attractive to the coaches we are looking at. If it is true, I guess we are going to have to roll the dice with some lower tier head coaches or an up and coming assistant.

And yet I got beat up on this or another thread saying the outside perception in the hoops world of Mason is not what we have on this board......

If it's about money, wouldn't it have been the same perception in 2011 when Coach L left? Wouldn't have it been the same perception in 2006 if Coach L left after the Final Four?

And why would GW (who spends maybe 200k more than we do on basketball or St. Louis (who finished below us last year) look like a better job?

I would say he might be, if Edwards had to go far enough down the list.

But don't forget ADs have just as much arrogance as coaches...and have their own thoughts on what is right.

I think it's also just harder to hire head coaches away, especially successful coaches. I'm sure both Illinois and UCLA were surprised when Shaka Smart wouldn't even interview with them.

Mark Few, Greg Marshall, Shaka Smart etc. are proving you don't need to be in the Big East or ACC to be a successful coach anymore.

We could have hired a sh*tload of candidates in 2011. We were hot and loaded.

TOC f*cked that opportunity up.

Now we are a 2 year cellar dweller in the A-10 and need an overhaul. And with a host of other situations above us in the BCS yet to be resolved that will ripple downward. Thus I am sure many candidates are taking their time to see what shakes out or make their situation better before "settling" on Mason.

It's jsut the reality.

So it's about how many wins you had the year before? Don't buy that.

What needs overhauled, by the way, can anyone explain that to me?

Not worried. Brad needs to keep swinging for the homerun hire. Need to wait on Turner's answer. Maybe Brad has another homerun hire lined up that we don't even know about.

If you dont understand the difference in taking over Mason in 2011 vs now...then I have got nothing for you.

As for overhaul, well its the old adage of "I need my own players." We cant expect even a good coach to get beyond middle of the pack with 18 6'7" guys and marginal PGs in the A-10.

Angel and Brad strike me as very bright and prepared jokers, I have no doubt that there is a back plan to the back up plan to the back up plan. It sucks for us having to wait it out but I have faith in those 2 guys to make the right call on their time table not ours. Also as I mentioned before, we don't have the hot job like we did in 2011, there needs to be some up selling by Brad about his vision for our program compared to where we are now.

I think you may be overvaluing the players on G Mas because you like them. No non G Mas fans, that I know, lose sleep over that roster.

It's not as hot right now, but the potential is still there.

I'm with you, everyone should chill the F out, let the process work itself out and not start moronic threads like the paint chip eater who began this one. If anyone needs more proof, go look on the open coaches thread and see how many others have been filled. News flash, were on the curve and not behind it.

I think you may be undervaluing how badly Hewitt coached the players we have. One only has to look at the difference between Jalen Jenkins as a freshman and Jalen Jenkins his sophomore, Hollway's regression from freshman, to sophomore to junior season to see the Hewitt effect.

While I agree with you about TOC, I'm not sure we were a better destination back then. The CAA was suffering major defections and turning back into a podunk one bid league.

I think Mason is a great opportunity (maybe I'm delusional) because of our beautiful campus, still-very-nice arena, proximity to DC and the Northeast, our aggressive AD and president, and the fact that we are in a league with nine NCAAT bids in the last two years.
