I agree. I see no benefit other than a salary bump in the LSU job.

I agree with your agreement. Some of these P5 jobs are like chasing fool's gold. The money is obviously better, but at what expense? He had a great thing going at vcu and had a chance of making the NCAAT every year, especially with that new class of recruits coming in. Now he is looking at having to rebuild a program that is several recruiting cycles away from being middle-of-the pack in the SEC.

it's like asking why Mike Hopkins left Syracuse. These coaches want to build their own programs.

Wade must've 1) hated Richmond and their shitty fan base 2) hate AD Ed McLaughlin

Had to be one or the other. He left a guaranteed 8 year $1.5 mil/year with a $1 million buyout to get a 6-year deal at LSU.

6 years at $2.something, vs. 8 years/$1.5+ whatever new contract he would've gotten this offseason.

Something is VERY fishy to me.

Is it possible he just saw the writing on the wall and figured his stock wasn't getting any higher? Sure they have some talented freshmen coming in but they lost a lot. Maybe he felt now was the time to get paid. He had no ties to vcu so it isn't like he was gonna be loyal. Also if he has one/two good years at LSU he'll get a bumper deal well beyond what he's being paid now. I'd take 2.5 million a year for two years when I'm 33 or whatever he is.

I saw Monmouth's King Rice is rumored for Duquesne. If I'm him, I look at UMass, UNCW or vcu. Duquesne is a dead end, IMO.

As great as it is too see vcu suffer right now I think we'll be in the same boat with Paulsen after he builds us back up. He had a good thing going at Bucknell but still chose to come here, he prob has higher goals.

I hope when that time comes one of the asst coaches are ready to take over.

He should look at UNCW, in my opinion. The CAA had a good year, RPI wise. Duquesne hasn't done squat in a long time, regardless of who is the coach.

I think he should stay at Monmouth unless a clear upgrade comes along. Monmouth has a great arena; probably the 2nd best in the league behind Siena, and gets very good student support. The arena just got a naming rights partner and recently added a number of very nice luxury suites. In my opinion, Monmouth should be a program that the A10 looks at when the next wave of realignment happens.

Blows my mind that Wade and Paulsen were hired just 2 years ago and Wade already dipped on his team. It feels like Paulsen is just finally letting his roots grow here at Mason while Wade used what existing parts he had and bolted for greener pastures.

It's not like Wade did anything really remarkable while at vcu, he wasn't a bad coach that set their program back at all but he also didn't take them to the next level either, nor should he have in only 2 seasons. I just don't understand LSUs willingness to want him so badly. He joined an existing successful program and continued their level of success which is to finish at the top of the A10 and maybe win a game in the tourney. He hasn't really been a savior yet and proven that he can rebuild anything. Prior to vcu, Wade bolted Chattanooga after 2 seasons. He has a little Lane Kiffin in him and will always go after the sexier job. Good Luck.

vcu is probably going to be better off with Rhoades or Christian anyway because they can actually coach. One of them beat us last year with a team from the Northeast conference.

I actually wish Wade had stayed. I really don't think much of his coaching. vcu was set to take a hit or two with him. Obviously they will with him leaving as well in the short term (if their recruits bail), but it be better in the long run.

Monmouth also has football, so I'm not sure they'd be a fit for a basketball first conference.

Rice isn't going to go from the MAAC to the CAA, hes only going to go up, not do a lateral move.

Can't blame a guy for chasing the cash. But I think Wade would have eventually been paid similar numbers at vcu if his team continued to make tournament appearances.
Boosters follow success.

3-4 bad years at a p5 school and your a** is out the door hoping a mid major will pick you up.

Greg marshal from Wichita is the 9th highest paid coach. And he coaches in the Mo Valley.

Easier said then done, but I patience pays off.
