vcu and LSU are in the Maui Invitational in November.
One opinion about why Will Wade shouldn't have left:

I agree. I see no benefit other than a salary bump in the LSU job.
I saw Monmouth's King Rice is rumored for Duquesne. If I'm him, I look at UMass, UNCW or vcu. Duquesne is a dead end, IMO.
I think he should stay at Monmouth unless a clear upgrade comes along. Monmouth has a great arena; probably the 2nd best in the league behind Siena, and gets very good student support. The arena just got a naming rights partner and recently added a number of very nice luxury suites. In my opinion, Monmouth should be a program that the A10 looks at when the next wave of realignment happens. He should look at UNCW, in my opinion. The CAA had a good year, RPI wise. Duquesne hasn't done squat in a long time, regardless of who is the coach.
I actually wish Wade had stayed. I really don't think much of his coaching. vcu was set to take a hit or two with him. Obviously they will with him leaving as well in the short term (if their recruits bail), but it be better in the long run.

I agree with your agreement. Some of these P5 jobs are like chasing fool's gold. The money is obviously better, but at what expense? He had a great thing going at vcu and had a chance of making the NCAAT every year, especially with that new class of recruits coming in. Now he is looking at having to rebuild a program that is several recruiting cycles away from being middle-of-the pack in the SEC.
Greg marshal from Wichita is the 9th highest paid coach. And he coaches in the Mo Valley. Can't blame a guy for chasing the cash. But I think Wade would have eventually been paid similar numbers at vcu if his team continued to make tournament appearances.
Boosters follow success.
3-4 bad years at a p5 school and your a** is out the door hoping a mid major will pick you up.
