Barring injury, AJ is gonna start the opener at the 4. He has been absolutely killing it in practice. Looks like a completely different guy.

My predicted starting 5 (until Kier returns): Hartwell, Greene, Miller, AJ and Calixte
His shot look good enough to force defenses to respect it?

this only works if Calixe plays 30+ mins, which won’t happen

Disagree. With Calixte, AJ, Mar, Miller and Oduro capable of playing the 4/5 spots, we have some lineup flexibility there.

We do need Greg to stay healthy and out of foul trouble though. I don’t think any of us want to see a true freshman playing major minutes at the 5 and AJ is not a long-term solution there.

AJ is backing up the 5, they have no choice. He and Calixte on the floor at the same time makes the offense limited. There’s also the risk of them getting into foul trouble early and the only option on the bench is Oduro, no way that’s their plan.

I think what he's saying is that AJ has developed offensively enough to the point where them being on the floor at the same time no longer limits the offense.

If that's true, that's transformational because AJ provides rim protection rebounding and energy.

Yes. This could be good news in that he’s got an athleticism that Mar doesn’t. Hopefully Mar isn’t a dud like last year so he can give us some good minutes at the 3/4 too. The real question is, can Mar and AJ be on the floor at the same time (that’s a pretty small front line) less if AJ and Calixte can (probably don’t want to see Oduro play more than 6 mpg unless we are somehow blowing a team away).

You should inform the coaches then because I’m hearing something completely different.

AJ is not a 5 at our level. He gets overpowered in the paint and that takes away his best asset, which is protecting the rim.

The problem last season was he was not ready to play major minutes at the 4. That is no longer the case. He has worked his a** off to expand his game in the offseason. He’s ready to be a leader on this team and we need him.

I suppose those who are in the area might be able to answer this question soon, but how high are the coaches on Oduro's ability to give solid backup minutes at the 5? Calixte is going to get into foul trouble, he's not going to be able to play 35 mpg. If AJ isn't going to be given anything but emergency minutes at the 5, what's the plan for when Calixte isn't on the floor?

How about on D? Does he seem more disciplined than he has in the past, not always chasing the block?

Oduro was set to redshirt before Reuter left, those who think he's going to come off the bench and play 15 min to give relief at the 5 are nuts.

Well. What the plan was and what the reality is now are two different things.

Definitely not saying your wrong but Miller was set to redshirt and he didn’t play too badly last season 2nd semester. He definitely surprised me.

Exactly but then who plays up front if Calixte can't play 35 minutes a night? I can only think of rotating Miller, Mar and AJ around if needed, is that what you mean basically?

Mar did start at the 5 his freshman year. I could see him getting spot minutes there if we needed him to, but he’s going to be giving up a lot of size to opposing bigs in the defensive side of the ball.

I don’t want to ever see Miller play at the 5.

AJ isn’t fit to play the 5 at this level but Mar is?
