Yes, the A-10 and Big East don’t have to share revenue with football, but the sheer size of SEC football revenue makes that irrelevant. Even if SEC schools allocate just 5% of their total athletic revenue to basketball, that could still outpace the entire A-10’s budget. It is hard to predict these things, but, if House settlement/Revenue share goes through, the numbers this year may be significantly higher than last year. I don't know if they are going to jump as much at the top level, but at the A10 level, I expect them to skyrocket.
For example, Alabama’s football program alone made $140 million in 2024. If just 5% of that ($7 million) went to basketball, that’s already a bigger budget than most A-10 programs can dream of. And that doesn’t even include the SEC’s massive media deals, donor contributions, and NCAA tournament payouts.
The idea that basketball-only leagues have an inherent financial advantage is misleading. In reality, SEC and Big Ten programs have the luxury of football money, and even a small slice of that can dwarf what mid-major basketball programs can offer.
