2025 Portal Season

I have a student teacher this semester, which means I have a lot of time on my hands.

Attached is a portal tracker for Mason fans. It includes players that entered the portal from Maryland, Virginia, and DC as well as any guys that have been reported to receive interest from Mason. Many of the DMV players have no interest from us or might be above our level, but I'm including them all. I'm sure there are mistakes or others that can be included (like many have heard Baraka, but I left him off until something official gets reported), so if you see anything wrong, just DM me.

Maryland guard DeShawn Harris-Smith is entering the transfer portal.

DeShawn Harris-Smith is a former 4-star recruit out of Woodbridge, Virginia who spent both of his collegiate seasons at Maryland.

He averaged 2.5PPG, 2.4RPG and 1.0APG this season. Averaged 7.3PPG during his freshman year at Maryland.

He played for PVI and Team Takeover during high school.

"Harris-Smith was a STAR at Paul VI and was recruited to Maryland by Coach Skinn. He’s the embodiment of Patriot Pressure and I’d expect George Mason to be heavily involved here." - @GMURecruiting on Twitter

So far, due to graduation and the portal we lost 53.2 points and 25.6 rebounds. So, roughly 75% of our scoring and 70% of our rebounding needs to be replaced. Then factor in the lost intangibles of a player like Billups and the picture becomes even more complex. It's going to be interesting to see how this shakes out but I'm anxious/curious to see where we end up.

Given the sheer number of players looking to step up from "lower" conferences, and a few P4 guys like strong we are after - I think there is the clear opportunity to reload and replace those numbers at least on paper.

Of course, each year is going to be a crap shoot to see how the new team gels - but the downside of having so many seniors is having to replace so many guys, in addition to the now typical transfers out.

I have no doubt we will get several guys we are excited about to step in immediately as double digit scorers/starters and it will be interesting to see how they turn out. I'm optimistic about the opportunity to improve offensively.

Haynes - initially looked like a bust, then turned into better than advertised.
Zach - never really contributed offensively, except for a handful of games, as we expected.
KD - appeared initially to be a bust/head case, but CTS got him to settle end and he ended up being our 30 mpg closing pg and was a huge asset to our team.

If anything, CTS has shown in a small sample size that he can build a team from individual parts and get some of those squares to fit into round holes after some time.

Hmmmm... I no longer see J. Quigley in the transfer portal—at least, not in the list from 247 Sports. He was listed. Now he's not. Anyone know his current story?
