GIVING DAY 2023
My .02

It’s improving, not quite where it needs to be but it’s closer. Midmajors really need to start teaming up.

1) need to win to get into a real Mte. I like the one we are in this year, with two extra home games and a road game at a p5
2) home slate is rough. We shouldn’t lose any of them honestly.
3) two games at a p5 is good for a nonconf.
4) adding Madison to the schedule is always a plus. We will need replacements next year for ecu and Tulane. But I like that we did home and homes with aac teams. Good conference to target.
5) I miss the days where we’d have a solid mid major or two - like a Vermont or Harvard.
6) we need to find a way to get a neutral game with a p5 at some point. Everyone else does.

Other than that, just win.

Anyone else wish we can play Virginia Tech or Georgetown in the non con?
or UVA or Maryland or Penn State or Temple or Villanova
Definitely beating a drum and in full agreement.

Unfortunately it takes two to tango.

I’m hopeful that we will get VT or Umd on the schedule at some point. I’m not sure if Tony wants to play Umd due to his ties there. It’s crazy that many other regions have regional matchups but the dc area schools appear to be too stubborn.

Temple would be good too since we’ve been targeting AAC programs.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I want the tough games on the road. A win makes it that much better for their NCAA resume.

To be fair, Maryland has played us twice recently.

I’m not sure why Tech never schedules us. They’ve played us less than UVA I think.

I can’t remember playing Villanova outside a tournament (NCAA or MTE). Have we ever scheduled them?

West Virginia is another close P5.

Skinn also has a relationship with the Ohio State coach and that would be a good game.

Coach L needs to come back to Fairfax and play us before he retires! Get that game done.

my mother's side of the family is from Southern Virginia

2 cousins played football at Ferrum before transferring to William & Mary
the oldest played for the Detroit Lions then the CFL before retiring
and the oldest was inducted into the Ferrum Sports Hall of Fame last October

the other cousin had a son who also played for Ferrum before transferring to Va Tech where he was the captain of the FB team during the massacre and is now the Head FB Coach at St. Albans

Ferrum College has done that branch of the family very well
their brother - my oldest cousin had a daughter who graduated from NC Central about 4 years ago.

NC Central is also the alma mater of the former NFL lineman turned artist - Ernie Barnes
he is the artist of all the work shown on the TV series- Good Times

I was on that campus last spring and I am glad it is a home game and they can definitely use the buy money
My cousin played football for Ferrum and his friend and roommate for a year was MLB pitcher Billy Wagner. Went to his graduation and I'm sure I met him at some point prior to his epic MLB career as we had a party at their rented house. Wonder if my cousin still talks to Billy... hmmm.

Orion Martin! Was a good player at VT, remember well.

Has to be the worst home OOC in 20+ years. Casual fans not gonna show up for these.
If we wanna play good teams, its not gonna be in Fairfax until we become a top 50 or so program. Then teams will come to Fairfax. For now, I'm good with the Bobby Boden approach. Play anybody anywhere.

... as long as it's D-1 !!!

On a similar note, if we insist on bringing D-3 teams to EBA, they should be free (or reduced) admission. I don't do season tix, and have issues paying the same for a D-3 cupcake/exhibition as other games.

Or, utilize the RAC for D-3 match-ups. I thirst for another game there. That tournament/blizzard game from years back is still in my head; awesome atmosphere in that room!

Because scheduling a NET 350 D-1 team hurts our NET even if we win by 40 points. It's safer to schedule a non-D1.

That’s not true. Destroying a crappy D1 team by 40 points helps our metrics because of offensive and defensive efficiency numbers. It’s what the Big 12 figured out.

Now what doesn’t necessarily help you is scheduling a Q3 home game and winning by 2 points.

Someone can correct me, but my understanding is non-d1 opponents are not calculated in the NET.

Therefore, its an easy way to fill a glorified practice versus buying a game against a sub 350 opponent that only hurts your NET.

(I am not defending d3 home games, I think they are lame, but they are very common now.)
