Now that may have been debunked. Young is a lights-out recruiter, but it will be interesting to see if UMass administration has the balls to hire somebody with no experience as a Division I head coach.

UConn associate head coach Kimani Young’s name is picking up steam at UMass. He has been on Danny Hurley’s staff since 2018, and had been with Richard Pitino at Minnesota and FIU before that. The NYC native is known for his strong NY recruiting ties. Mark Blaudschun reporting this could be done in a few days.

Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing was given a vote of confidence by AD Lee Reed last week despite being winless in the Big East this season and 6-24 overall. Now, more info is coming out on the “secret” extension that Ewing signed after last season. According to a report from Hilltop Hoops, Georgetown added three-years to Ewing’s contract last spring, which means he now has four years left. Ewing’s $3MM+/yr base salary remained unchanged with the extension.

Glenn Sugiyama from DHR has the Western Michigan search. Obviously the name everyone wants to talk about here is Michigan assistant Saddi Washington. The WMU alum has been at Michigan since 2016, and was reportedly involved the last time it opened in 2020. Biggest question here will be salary – does Western Michigan have the money to make this a competitive spot? Former head coach Clayton Bates was making $220k/yr, while his predecessor Steve Hawkins was at $385k/yr. Will be interesting to see how this plays out."

I think it makes sense for Umass to hire a guy like that, like many are saying. What does scare me slightly is that the money that he could get (about 1.2) as a first time coach. I get he’s been around longer but I just hope Mason is ready to pony up sooner than later.

English is making $925k guaranteed with at 25k retention bonus and 50k in academic bonuses (which hopefully the team meets). So, without any of the performance bonuses, he's at $1 million. So, not too far off.

Fair. I’m just curious if all of the 1.2 is guaranteed plus bonuses or if it’s up to 1.2. But yes, In the same ballpark which is good, to start.

Factor in the difference in income taxes from VA to MASS and English probably takes home more at a mil a year.

Sources: Trent Johnson is expected to finalize an agreement to become the permanent head coach at CSUN (Cal State Northridge). Johnson served as interim head coach this season.

Andy Enfield was mentioned as a candidate at Maryland, but word out of USC all along has been he was more likely to sign a new deal. And now he has — through 2028.
