"If that corner of the coaching market stays quiet, MU is arguably the fourth-best job available. (LSU’s infractions case weighs it down.) Maybe it works in MU’s favor. Or maybe we see other candidates join Niko Medved in staying put and forcing MU to look further down its list.

"If you’ve paid $6 million to move on from Martin, is bringing home a candidate like Kim English, who has a bright future but is also young, the outcome decision-makers envisioned at the start? Or will they and the fanbase get a brutal lesson in how this job is viewed?"

I predict LSU will either go for Greg Marshall or Cuonzo Martin.

Only LSU would be willing to touch Marshall. He may be a jerk, but I don’t think he was accused of cheating.

If they expect the NCAA to come down hard, then a guy like Martin makes sense. He is highly respected and it would show that they (appear) to care about running a clean program.

Maybe I'm naïve (wouldn't be the first time) but I'm just not that worried about CKE going to Mizzou. It seems so much more fan-driven by a name they knew and loved as a great and relatively recent player from their program than an actual thoughtful consideration of who is out there and would be the best fit. Takeaway that he once wore a Tigers uniform and is he even in consideration for the job? Maybe there's a reason you don't see similar buzz around his name in the other SEC openings at USC, LSU, and UF.

And this isn't a knock on CKE, I'm still completely behind him and the hire. But 7 years ago he was a first-time assistant coach at Tulsa. 8 years ago he was playing in a Venezuelan pro league. He has one year of head-coach experience and just ended that season by going 3-9 and losing twice to Fordham. To make a poor analogy, just because a HS kid was a hot-shot national recruit, you don't put immediately put him on an MLB roster if he's batting .200 in Triple A. Until you can get past Kyle Neptune, I don't think you're ready to go up against Rick Barnes, John Calipari, Bruce Pearl, Eric Musselman, Nate Oats, Ben Howland, Buzz Williams, Kermit Davis, and whatever Strong-a**-Offer coach LSU hires nightly. Hell, Tom Crean has taken three squads to the Sweet 16 and a fourth to the Final Four, was a 2X CUSA COY, Big 10 COY, and Claire Bee Nat'l COY and just got fired by Georgia for having the worst record in the conference.

Per "sources" I am much more worried about Kansas St than Mizzou... If I hear more I will say more but he has "met" with them KSU regarding the job. That is all I have heard for actually meeting with another school. I really hope Kansas St hires Tang from Baylor

You bring up a lot of good points. While it is clear Kim English is a candidate at Mizzou, it is largely driven by fans and nostalgia. The top two individuals making the decision were not at Mizzou when Kim was here so they are not as susceptible to that emotion. Even a guy like Jon Sunvold (current ESPN broadcaster and former Mizzou basketball player) is playing a lesser role in this search than he did previous times. There are several prominent boosters who are pushing for KE but it remains to be seen how much influence they have.

The latest update on our side is indicating that we are touching base with coaches like Matt McMahon from Murray State and Dennis Gates from Cleveland State so it is clear that there are several other coaches involved in addition to Kim English and Jerome Tang.

That was my initial thought. I thought, no way does KE get more than a courtesy interview, if that. I have changed my opinion based on the assumption that Missouri will not be able to get their first three or four targets. Medved is already off the table. There are only a few "can't miss" or "win the presser" candidates.

Other homer hires would be good, i.e., Grant to Florida. Grant probably isn't on too many schools' radar due to failing at Alabama and his reported "weirdness."

Having said all that, I still think there is only a 25% chance that KE is offered the job. But I do think there is a 100% chance that he accepts, if offered.

There is so much conflicting info out there on the K-State search. There are quite a few connected folks over there indicating that they think they have a real chance at Brad Underwood and are waiting until the end of the Illinois season before they approach. Others don't think that there is much of a chance and that they are zeroing in on the host of mid-major names that are being linked to every job right now.

I don't think in the end Underwood will leave Champaign for his alma mater and I would make Tang the odds on favorite in Manhattan at the moment.

Mizzou Man, which fan message board is the best for Mizzou info?

The best one is the Rivals site, PowerMizzou, but that is a pay site unfortunately. You linked an article from Rock M Nation and that is a solid blog with some pretty intelligent people over there.

Tigerboard is the most popular message board but it has an old format that hasn't changed since the 90s. It's full of kansas and Kansas State fans who troll and a bunch of double handles from regulars just trying to stir the pot with nonsensical news. People are posting about Quin Snyder coming back and others are insisting that Rick Stansbury was spotted in town recently. A lot of time stuff that is mentioned on the premium sites like PowerMizzou gets regurgitated over there by people claiming to be insiders but the reality is that they just pay $9.95 a month for their info.

Clearly that person hasn't listened to any other media KE has done this year. Dude is always selling.
True.

It is the "on the radio this morning and . . . has been interviewing" that was the new info. If true. No comments from the other TigerBoard folks. I would have thought that was the most important new information today and, therefore, would have received lots of comments and requests for a link to the interview.

Kim is gonna be “interviewing” — or at least listening to interest from other schools — every offseason while employed by Mason. Brad and Dr. W had to know that is what they were signing up for when they hired him. Beats having a meh coach nobody else is interested in poaching lol.

Come on. He is a first year coach with a losing record. If it wasn't his alma mater, Mizzou wouldn't have any interest in him. Hopefully, Mizzou doesn't hear about Neptune.

Unless KE wins an A10 championship or a game in the NCAA tournament, he will not get any interviews next year unless he does a sales job that only a young Barnes could pull off.

He brought in a top 100 recruit and didn't have to hire his uncle. He clearly knows how to sell.
