When my son started playing basketball, the league (a pure teaching league) he was in had a rule that matched two guys up. On defense you covered the other guy and he covered you when you were on offense. It was an initial way to learn man to man defense. The only problem was that early on some kids on offense would go and seek out their defender to be with him instead of trying to get away from him.
On a related not, I think I have a theory of what the problem is with our offense. I think Paulsen has confused the guys on defense and offense to the point they are "covering" their defender on offense and not doing a good job of getting away from their defender.
Of course I am just kidding, but it sure seems to like that at times.
