Not a lot of mentions of Ian Boyd out there in the preseason. Anyone have any idea what to expect from him / how much we will see him on the floor? I expect Ian to be slotted in 7th or 8th in the rotation. It would be a shame for him personally if the freshmen displace him and take his minutes after deciding to come back for his final year of eligibility.

TBH the less we see Ian, the better we are as a team most likely... no shade to him but that means that some underclassmen are stepping up and overtaking the guy who exclusively plays 3 and occasional D. Playing a 3 in today's game that can't dribble isn't great unless our offense changes and we get penetration and wide open 3s for him to shoot

“We have eight guys who have scored double figures at least once returning, and we’re really excited about our freshman class. Since I’ve been here, this is the deepest team we’ve had, the most experienced team we’ve had, the most versatile team we’ve had.”

What’s gonna be the excuse this year? I know we had some injuries last year but I’m not really optimistic about our chances in the A-10 when we return everyone that got us to a 5-13 record and other teams in the league have improved.

Agreed, we've heard this before. In the past DP has said something to the effect that this is his best team ever..... but he doesn't know how many games we'll win. Will the "SleepingGiant" emerge from his ten year nap?

Just as a point of optimism: Richmond went 6-12 two seasons ago with one major injury (Nick Sherod), and the only real major addition to the team next season that went 24-7 (14-4) was Blake Francis.

Now, granted, we don't have a Grant Golden or a Jacob Gilyard on this roster, but we do have an AJ Wilson. I'm not saying we'll be a top 4 team this year, but we have a shot of being much better than we were last year (also, Richmond just lost Sherod again, so I have my doubts they're going to finish 1 or 2, so there's an opening).

I'm with you. And I may be foolish, but I actually believe when DP says that this is his best team yet.

What concerns me is that we are 1 COVID case away from the season falling apart. Hopefully AJ is living in a bubble. Realistically, any positive test will likely lead to a lot of canceled games. If games do go on with positive testing players sidelined, the A-10 could easily turn into a war of attrition.

Which if we can somehow avoid it, we *should* be well positioned to excel in, given that we all agree we are both experienced and deep this year. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I think 3rd through 10th are all easily within our grasp.

Agreed on COVID possibly throwing a wrench into everything.

Yea your A10 picks in that other thread need to be erased by god himself because it shows you don’t watch other A10 teams at all

No, I don't have enough time to watch 7 basketball games a week, so other than the rare occasion when I catch a non-Mason A-10 game I watch them when they play Mason (also during conference tournament time.

But do you mean this? That's the only prediction I offered:
Richmond without Nick Sherod might slip. Duquesne is too high at 3rd. I'd flip-flop them with Dayton (Dayton is still going to be really good with Ibi Watson and Jalen Crutcher). Mason at 6th is optimistic, especially putting them over URI (who got all their transfers approved) and UMass (who has Tre Mitchell), it really all depends on how much the team coheres and how much the players around AJ Wilson improved in the offseason, if at all.

Compare what I said to yours and tell me how it's so different:

1 St. Louis
2 Richmond
3 dayton
4 Duquesne
5 Bona
6 Rhode Island
7 mason
8 umass
9 gw
10 vcu
11 Davidson
12 st joes
13 lasalle
14 Fordham

Note: The original post had Duquesne at 3rd and Dayton at 5th.

Where is out Blake Francis - we cannot shoot!

We probably don’t have one. But Before his illness and after, Hartwell was at a little over 40% from 3 if you add in those games together. He can obviously shoot.

We know Miller and Greene also “can” shoot but Greene was inconsistent and Miller was passive a lot last year.

Kolek supposedly has been lighting it up so maybe he comes off the bench and hits 3s for us.

Boyd is also a pretty good catch and shoot 3-point shooter (or at least he was before hurting his shooting wrist).

It really all depends on whether or not Paulsen finds and offense that gets guys open so they aren’t shooting in traffic or desperation’s 3s at the end of shot clocks. I said before with Hartwell, Greene, Miller and AJ there should be no reason why we don’t space the floor and try to get them easier looks.

Edit: and before anyone (sleeper) jumps down my throat, I’m not predicting anything just saying if certain players make certain improvements (or refinements) to their game the potential is there.

Exactly! College basketball rosters including ours are littered with kids who can hit uncontested 3s, but it's a different story when you have guys draped all over you in a game situation. There is no reason our guards shouldn't get more open looks in the the flow of our offense rather than having to shoot with a hand in their face, fading away or heaving it up desperately as the shot clock winds down.

I actually read the email as you do, thinking we'd get an email today. However, they said that they would email us info about priority points by next Monday November 30th.

I'm just curious where I rank on the priority points scale.

Signed up for ESPN+ today but none of the Mason games later this week were listed nor were any of the games between other teams playing there.

Hoping they will get added once we get a bit closer.

Whoops! My error....the games are listed on ESPN3!
