Western Kentucky’s Dalano Banton picks Nebraska, aka new Transfer U.

Mason was mentioned after he announced he was transferring, but no idea how serious the interest was on either side.

Adding a first-team all-Met pick in the late signing period would be massive.

I know this may never come to fruition, but can’t help but be giddy thinking about a lineup with Haidara, Brown, Mar, Miller and either Calixte or AJ.

The length and versatility in that group would be a game-changer for our program.

Dave is rapidly closing the athleticism gap he talked about after the A-10 tournament.
you expected it didn't you Jim? Brown to St Joe's right? big ole insider... athleticism gap still closing right?

Not sure what point you are trying to make, but yes, it was fairly obvious over the past few days that he was going to Saint Joe’s.

Good for him. Hope he enjoys losing to Mason for the next 4 years.

Wow. Losing recruits to a dumpster fire program. Shaking my f**king head. We probably have enough guys at his position, but perception is emerging that kids dont wanna play for DP. Cant blame em bc we have no assistants.

Assistants arguably ruined program more than helped it. Many whiffs, busts and near low than low mid major recruits. Now, without them, nobody can trust the lil guy and his maybe soon to be gone and last assistant standing. Huge that lil Dave gets some hounds. Or we are toast.

Here you are with the “lil Dave” thing again . . .
We are so toast, because we have 1 scholarship to fill. What will we ever do without Cam Brown? How can we ever compete with the powerhouse that will be St. Joe’s?!

Since I called Cam Brown going to St. Joe's, I will say I don't like our chances with Mika Adams-Woods either. He will go to UMASS or St Joe's as well.

We need a 4 or 5. I have been saying this for years. We cant keep sending Calixte out there shooting 40% Free throws.

Roster Management oversight is gonna cost Paulsen his job, not his coaching.

A fair take. And I agree, signs do not point to landing Adams-Woods. And again, it is not a huge failure in recruiting. The failure in recruiting is not having more dependable bigs already on the roster. I actually think Calixte is serviceable, but what do we do when he is not in? I don’t think it will be pretty. Dave has a lot riding on the likes of AJ, Mar, and Oduro.

I just don’t understand why we are picking on DP for the 2019 recruiting class when, 1- it probably isn’t complete yet, and 2- none of them have played yet. I’d rather entertain criticism of the previous recruiting classes.

Then why are we offering every wing out there? I agree a center is the biggest need.

It's way more concerning that us norms see what we need but they keep offering wings and guards. Signing day has passed and still crickets while other teams are picking up players and coaches. Hold onto your money folks until things pan out.

We only have one available scholarship and there is no rule that says we have to use it. Most of the teams that are signing multiple recruits/transfers at this point have had major roster turnover because of a coaching change. Let’s be glad that’s not us.

Jim,

Take a look and review the reason why we didnt finish top 4. Look at the rest of the league. You have Osunyi at Bonnie, Toppin at Dayton, Langevine at Rhody and Santos Silva at vcu who will eat us alive next year if we dont address it.

We are only graduating Kier and Boyd next year so we could hold onto the scholarship. I would have to think AJ leaves after next season as a GT.

I’m with the majority in wondering why we aren’t tied to more bigs unless Oduro isn’t redshirting. I’d love an established GT or JUCO but they aren’t easy to come by, most teams want that.

Calixte did a decent job defending all of those players actually. Defending the 5 hasn't been our issue. Look at Josh Cunningham, Hasahn French, Santos-Silva, Osun, and Langevine's numbers against us, they aren't that great. We did have a lack of size problem against opponents 4s, which Toppin was last year. Miller was great, but he was getting pushed around defensively. And really poor shooting and turnovers led to a lot of easy buckets for certain teams (SLU, vcu particularly). Also, rotating on 3-point shooters.

Yeah, Calixte isn't a double-double machine, but he's going to be just fine on the defensive side of the ball. He holds his own. We need people who can score on the other side.

Except that we all complained about doubling the opposing 5’s all year long, which led to open perimeter shots. So I don’t think you can look at the opposing 5’s stats to evaluate Calixte’s defense.

I think Calixte could hold his own defensively, but he just wasn’t given much of a chance to prove that last year. Conversely, if the defensive rotations were better, doubling the post wouldn’t have been such a problem either.

Unfortunately, the type of big who can come in and help us immediately next season isn’t going to come here.

Those guys are in such demand that Kentucky took a grad transfer from Bucknell, of all places.

And God forbid Dave take a chance on a transfer big who might not perform up to this board’s expectations. We’ve already seen how maturely many of our posters dealt with that situation.

The reality is, unless somebody unexpected falls into our laps, at this point it’s most likely the scholarship gets carried over.

DP didn’t offer decommits like Adams-Woods or Brown because we need them — we don’t — but because when you see an opportunity to add promising talent regardless of position, you go for it. We lose nothing by trying.

So no concern at all that DP hasn't been able to fill all scholarship spots since his time here? It might not be DP at all but Mason's rep that prevents this. We do need to get a person though that can fix it. I wonder what progress that guy from UMD has done and what his impressions are of the program. I wish this damn program would have better communication to the fans and public.

Every time I see someone post something about holding a scholarship for next year, I throw up a little in my mouth. Not using all 13 scholarships is like playing poker against the rest of the table, only they get to use all 7 cards to make their hand and you get to use 6. There is no reason not to use an available scholarship on a grad transfer - they are here one year and that scholarship becomes available the next year. Even if they never play one minute - you are in no worse position than you were holding the scholarship.

And Jim - the big difference with the Reuter reference is that the board didn't set those expectations, Paulsen did when he said he's an all A-10 type player. I think if you bring a player in and don't proclaim him the next great Mason big man, the expectations are far less on these boards.

My guess is they won't use it and it will go to a walk on for a year like they did last year with Nick. While it's a nice move, it doesn't help you win games.

I wonder how much not having a full staff hurts during all of this with one spot available and a short time to fill it? I'm grasping there is a coach/grad transfer combo that maybe we can snag, but that is a huge long shot.
