Just to add.. Kam was 13-16 from the stripe last season. I agree that he seemingly has an uphill battle for playing time, but at the very least the guy can shoot free throws.
Every team needs a bench guy that can lock down on defense and make his FTs in crunch time.

2017 McNamara PG Jamir Moultrie cut his list to 7 and we're not on it.

Oh well. Onward and upward.

I think I'd be happy with Ryan Allen or Jalen Gibbs, but like you've said, there are probably plenty of other '17 guards that DP is looking at that we don't know about.

Per Twitter, Schwieger says that Mason has offered. Nice that he and his family/friends seem excited about it.

Ryan committed to Princeton today.

Side note... Princeton is playing at vcu this year and they return all their key players this season so they should be able to give vcu a good game if their shots are falling. I work for Princeton Athletics and will probably be at that game with the ability to get some extra tickets if anyone lives in Richmond and would be interested in going. I believe the game is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

I mean I can certainly slow my roll. But Kam was easily the worst player that had any sort of playing time last year. I would even say Dixon looked more comfortable out there than Kam and Dixon was completely frantic whenever the ball got near him. I assume you study their practices so I am excited to see if you are right. If Kam is the first guard off the bench, this recruiting class I am excited about is not good...
Keep in mind, that Kam is from California. He was a long way from home and certainly not used to cold weather and snow. That can't be easy for a freshman. If the game can just slow down for him, I think he will start making shots. And he should be good for game ends due to his foul shooting skills.

luckily basketball is played indoors. Kidding aside, give the kid time and he will be just fine

What part of his game last year tells you he will be fine this year? Myles Tate looked more comfortable on the court than Kam last year. Yes, he hustles really hard and was 12-16 shooting free throws... but he didn't do very much else. Team will be very guard heavy and someone will be the odd man out and transfer and my money is on Kam.

lol I didn't know. You are the same guy that said AJ Wilson shouldn't redshirt and start right away because he is one of our best players (without ever stepping on a college basketball floor after attending a fake high school last year lol)

I view Kam in the same light as Ike Tate, doesn't quite have the quickness or ball handling for his position, but am hopefully by JR and/or SR year he can be a valuable contributor by playing excellent defense and hitting 3's when open.

I think we're all on the same page that he needs improvement. We need to remember not to be so harsh for his abilities as a freshman. His shot will eventually fall...I hope. According to his bio, he shot 66% from the 3-ball at IMG. 73% of his FG attempts were from the 3 last year. I know he's from CA but he needs to stop watching Golden State play and to learn to drive and not always settle on shooting the 3.

He is valuable to the team. I agree his hustle and defense is one of the best on the team. Watch him when he's on the bench. He's 110% into the game. Always cheering on teammates and super energetic. Every team needs that positive juju.

Like Dixon, there's nothing but up for this kid. He has no choice but to work hard and improve. With Boyd, Newman and Kier joining this year, he knows he's going to have to work his a** off otherwise its the bench. Last year we didn't have other options at the guard position. The only reason why Kam got so much PT last year was because Holloway f-ed us over.

looks like Darius Banks has us on his list.. he's another 4-star recruit..come on Dave, reel him in!

http://pittsburghsportsnow.com/2016/08/22/darius-banks-talks-duquesne/

I don't know this for certain, but unless the staff is planning to transition Kier or Boyd into a PG, I would be shocked if we took a commitment from a wing in the 2017 class.

Assuming Marquise plays this season -- he still has a redshirt available in case his ankle isn't ready to go by Nov. 12 -- we likely will have a glaring hole behind Otis in 2017-18.

Barring transfers/injuries/other issues, we'll go into that season with 8 guys at the SG/SF spots: Grayer, Abram, Murrell, Boyd, Newman, Kier, Mar and Wilson.

Banks looks like a terrific prospect, but it doesn't make much sense to add him to such an existing logjam.

Who cares what school he went to? Basketball is evaluated at the AAU circuit anyway.

We can sit here and act all high and mighty but we recruit players to play basketball not to be the best student. As long as they meet NCAA academics requirement they are good to go.

He was the highest rated recruit, so I was shocked to see him redshirt. simple as that

Not sure who is acting high and mighty, but Coach Paulsen has clearly given the impression that he cares about his players being good students, as well as good basketball players. You don't know if he has stricter academic standards for his players than the NCAA requires or not, and as a fan you should want Paulsen to recruit kids that are going to take their free education seriously. A good program produces players that are prepared to be successful in life, whether it be in basketball or otherwise, and I am sure any good coach is just as happy for a player who graduates and has a successful pro career, as they are for a player who graduates and has a successful career in medical, legal, financial, etc. I'd argue the latter is more important.

DJ3 -- ICYMI -- Paulsen does recruit players with the criterion "As long as they meet NCAA academics requirement they are good to go." If that's the philosophy you want your coach to follow, root for Louisville...

Disagree. I could care less how well the students do academically. The final four team rebuilt Mason, not their academics.

Luke and I rather Louisville standards, they win championships. Successful Basketball and Football teams increase the value of the diploma. I know you will point to IVY League schools. But they are the exception not the rule.

I don't think anybody disagrees that the final four team rebuilt Mason.. But, you will find me hard pressed to think that the record of our basketball team and non existent and not happening football team (not sure why this keeps getting brought up) has any baring on how my diploma is weighed.. We could lose every game and the weight of the diploma only goes up

I never said that the Final Four didn't do a lot for the University. That's how I found out about the school in the first place.
What I said had to do with wanting to have players that excel in all areas, athletically and academically. You may view them as puppets for your entertainment, but Paulsen CLEARLY cares about recruiting and coaching kids who value the education they are receiving, and turn out to be successful after their playing days are over, as do the vast majority of fans. Winning is extremely important, but so is the personal and professional development of these players, because if they aren't prepared for life after basketball then the coach and the University are not doing their jobs.
I really can't believe this is even a debate
