Watched that whole game because I'm a big nerd and I enjoy pretending to be a talent scout on this here message board. Some things I noticed:

- Javon's team looked overmatched this whole game. They were smaller at every position and the opponent had some crazy athletes and good shooters. Pretty cool that Javon put the team on his back - they really didn't have anyone else who could score and they get boatraced if Javon doesn't step up.

- Javon gets into the paint really well (a la Marquise) but missed a lot of finishes around the rim.

- Looked like he had about 20 points from the free throw line. Love a guy that draws fouls and gets to the rim so consistently.

- Wasn't afraid to launch from all over the court. Took a lot of bad shots but it's hard to blame him because again, they had almost nothing else for scoring on the floor.

- Had some turnovers in the paint and played out of control at times. Drove inside and put the ball up a lot even if he was going 1-on-2 or 1-on-3.

- His shot looks nice. Smooth stroke, quick release. Will have an immediate role here next year if that translates.

- His man defense left a lot to be desired. Played lazy at times and Khalil Cuffee (Southeastern Missouri commit) scored a lot on him. His team switched to a 2-3 zone after getting down big and Javon played the 3 spot. Did pretty well jumping some passes, but otherwise nothing about his rebounding or post defense stood out.

Overall he looks like a pure scorer type - trying to think of a former Mason player to comp him to and Sherrod comes to mind. Love how he was able to keep scoring when no one else on his team could, but nothing else about his game stood out (passing, rebounding, defense, etc). Even so, looks like a great get for us.

58 points is very encouraging, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Greene redshirt next year. I see a lot of room for improvement in his game, especially on defense.
No way he redshirts with Moore graduating. Paulsen already mentioned him and Mar will be day one contributors.

I agree. My prediction next year:

Transfers: Abram, Murrell

Depth Chart will probably go something like this:

PG: Otis, Greene
SG: Grayer, Newman
SF: Kier, Boyd
PF: Wilson/Mar, Mar/Wilson (no idea how this one is going to go)
C: Temara, Relvao, Dixon

And we'll have two unexpected scholarships open and the recruiting classes start balancing themselves out a little bit.

You mean my Christmas wish of Dixon's scholarship being freed up and him going to play community college ball next year is not going to happen?

I really can't see Dixon staying and hope Abrams stays.

It's still early but I think all 3 of them are gonna go.

Dixon and Murrell are no-brainers at this point, unless they are somehow content sitting on the end of the bench for two more years. Can't see that being the case.

Abram has the athleticism to play on our level, but he has already been recruited over and the situation won't get any better for him once Mar and Wilson are in the rotation.

It was obvious with back-to-back big classes that the staff was taking a "survival of the fittest" approach and not everyone would make it.

As Gemini said, it's not a bad thing to open up scholarships for 2018 and even out the classes some while building the sustainable talent pipeline to take over once Otis' class graduates. That's how programs stay consistently strong.

I have a feeling Dixon stays, If you see him on the sidelines he looks happy to just cheer on his teammates.

People are really reading into the Abram thing too much. Kid is obviously getting beat by Kier and Newman (better recruits) in practice and not taking it well. He probably just has a shitty attitude.

Small sample size, but every time they show a bench shot when the team is going well, Abram seems to be celebrating at least as much as anyone else.

I believe that you have to apply the Makan Konate rule. If the kid has a good attitude, works hard in practice and academically, then he's welcome to remain on the team.

I agree with that...I'm just making predictions based upon current playing time and the fact that it's going to get worse for Murrell and Abram (especially Abram), not better, next season. If both want to stay, they are absolutely welcome.

I would never advocate pushing a kid out of the program if he wants to stay and is fulfilling all of his responsibilities on and off the court.

I guess I was just assuming the kids who aren't playing would like to go somewhere they can contribute.

That is generally what's happening with the hundreds of transfers every year.

Surprised at how many folks give up on a 19 year old. Rolling over 3 guys would be wrong.
