Watched that whole game because I'm a big nerd and I enjoy pretending to be a talent scout on this here message board. Some things I noticed:
- Javon's team looked overmatched this whole game. They were smaller at every position and the opponent had some crazy athletes and good shooters. Pretty cool that Javon put the team on his back - they really didn't have anyone else who could score and they get boatraced if Javon doesn't step up.
- Javon gets into the paint really well (a la Marquise) but missed a lot of finishes around the rim.
- Looked like he had about 20 points from the free throw line. Love a guy that draws fouls and gets to the rim so consistently.
- Wasn't afraid to launch from all over the court. Took a lot of bad shots but it's hard to blame him because again, they had almost nothing else for scoring on the floor.
- Had some turnovers in the paint and played out of control at times. Drove inside and put the ball up a lot even if he was going 1-on-2 or 1-on-3.
- His shot looks nice. Smooth stroke, quick release. Will have an immediate role here next year if that translates.
- His man defense left a lot to be desired. Played lazy at times and Khalil Cuffee (Southeastern Missouri commit) scored a lot on him. His team switched to a 2-3 zone after getting down big and Javon played the 3 spot. Did pretty well jumping some passes, but otherwise nothing about his rebounding or post defense stood out.
Overall he looks like a pure scorer type - trying to think of a former Mason player to comp him to and Sherrod comes to mind. Love how he was able to keep scoring when no one else on his team could, but nothing else about his game stood out (passing, rebounding, defense, etc). Even so, looks like a great get for us.
