I like the guys brought in but am still a bit skeptical about an apparent philosophy that doesn't incorporate transfers. I took a look at some of the teams on our schedule that our ranked on the site that breaks down the top 144 teams coming into the season. Many of them have undergone rebuilds or are in the process of being rebuilt like GMU. They all seem to have transfers on their rosters. St. Bonnie's, Houston, Fordham, Towson ....well, that's about all the schools I looked at. Ah well - too much time on my hands I suppose.

Dave is building a program with a model that is sustainable over the long haul.

He obviously doesn't think 1-2 years is enough time for guys to get immersed in the team culture and fully learn the way he wants them to play.

Maybe that changes in a couple years once he has the program fully established and he thinks we're one piece away from being an NCAA team.

But for now our young guys need to play, not sit and watch older guys who will be moving on after 2 years.

It's the only way they're gonna get better.

I agree with gmujim92.

I think DP would consider a freshman transfer and possibly a soph transfer (although he would need to be a special player). A frosh transfer has four years in the program -- with the opportunity to learn the system and get immersed in the culture while sitting out the first year. As I mentioned previously, DP had one transfer during his tenure at Bucknell (and I don't recall any transfers during his eight years as the HC at Williams).

In many cases, transfers are fool's gold; fans love them because they don't want to wait for their young players to develop, but most transfers don't fit any better at their new schools than their old schools.

If you take a transfer who doesn't work out, it's a double whammy because you've used a scholarship slot that could've been used to develop a 4-year player.

I'm not naive enough to think we won't have anyone from this year's team transfer out -- the nationwide numbers suggest we'll lose at least one and likely more -- but I am very confident our patience will pay off handsomely once these young guys are upperclassmen.

Just to clarify, that one transfer was not a scholarship player. He came over from Penn and paid full freight. Was originally lined up to attend Bucknell before Flannery resigned as coach and then opted for a PG year and then Penn.

Over the past 15 years, Bucknell has only had two players leave the program and has never carried an available scholarship to the spring - so,that made it virtually impossible to go after a transfer, even if DP,might have wanted to. It's tough to find a good player who will pay his own way (especially when it costs $65,000 a year).

Random observation... I don't know why, but I was just watching Goanar Mar's highlights and realized that his ability to create space with different body angles around the rim reminds me so much of Ryan Pearson. He has a ton of patience and body control. As Rothstein would say, "so much Ryan Pearson in Goanar Mar".. atleast on offense..

GIVING DAY 2023
Isn't today national signing day for 2017 recruits?

Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

It's the first day of the early signing period, which usually lasts for 10 days or so.

Goanar Mar is signing Friday afternoon.

I haven't seen anything about when Javon Greene plans to sign.

"The 6-foot-2 guard dunked in a game as a sophomore..."

Well I'm sold! I'm sure the rest of the A10 is shaking in their boots reading that we signed a guy who dunked in 10th grade. Could be the worst line in signed recruit announcement I ever read. What's next, how long they can spin a basketball on their finger? Stats from gym class HORSE games?

"After falling behind by as many as 21 points in the first half, Greene led a spirited comeback that included seven three-pointers of his own in route to scoring 58 points in a 92-89 win."

Love seeing this given our desperate need for shooters.
