2017-18 Schedule Thread

when should we expect news of the schedule.

I really hope we can get some quality opponents this year.

Thought it was run by 1 freshman at Davidson and 1 vcu alum

I met both of them at Barclays Center last year for the A10 tourney (impressive feat for seniors in high school). They have writers that contribute from every school in the A10 and have started smaller subgroups for each school in the A10 (A1o Talk Mason, A10 Talk Richmond, etc).

According to A-10 Talk vcu's transfers from Longwood and Duquesne are the greatest accomplishment ever by any new coach.

Doesn't make it not a vcu blog. I get that the top teams in the conference will get more attention but they've spent weeks working the new vcu coaches shaft over signing a player from Longwood and didn't say one single thing about Mason getting a UVA transfer.

Mason kicks off the event on Thursday, November 16, with a contest vs. Binghamton inside EagleBank Arena.

The Patriots then will host head coach Reggie Theus' Cal State Northridge Matadors on Saturday, November 18.

From there, Mason makes the trek to the Riviera Maya for two games at the Hard Rock Hotel.

The Patriots open the Cancun portion of the event with a contest against Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are coached by two members of the Mason family. Head coach Eric Konkol served as an assistant coach for the Patriots from 2002-05 and again from 2007-11.

Assistant coach Tony Skinn played three seasons for Mason from 2003-06 and was a key member of the Patriots' 2005-06 NCAA Final Four squad.

Binghamton and Cal. St. Northridge were terrible last year - RPI's of 300 plus. Looking briefly at what La Tech and Fresno St. are returning from 20 win teams last year, they should both be NCAA contenders.

Looks like a decent combination of some cream puffs at home and opportunity for one or two decent, if not quality, wins.

Also pretty cool that we have a guaranteed matchup with La Tech.

Yeah- certainly can't hurt to basically have 2 homegames (and probably a 3rd since neither of these will be the home opener most likely) within the first 2 weeks of the season. Add the details you mentioned, it lines up nicely. Another good thing is that the Mexico games will be on CBS Sports Network.

Louisiana Tech should be a good game. We have Penn State at home, who had a young team like us last year and return all of their top scorers from an RPI 101 team, so they should be a good game, too.

Can't have any early season hiccups like last year.

At the very least I'd like to see us add another well respected mid-major. I get that scheduling an exciting non-conference slate as a mid-major is getting more and more difficult every year, but that doesn't mean we can't call up Illinois St or Belmont; who are probably having the same scheduling difficulties, and make something work.

I wouldn't mind seeing ODU back on the schedule.

That would be fun. The last time they were here we booed Arledge and now we can boo Porter.

Belmont or Middle Tenn State would be good schools to get on the schedule.

William and Mary wouldn't be a bad add either.

Easier said than done. I doubt DP is sitting around saying "gee, what can we do to get some more D2 schools on the schedule?"
