According to Ram Nation, their coach will never leave them. He loves vcu and Richmond. He has too much integrity and class to leave his players; they are like family to him.

EDIT: My mistake, that was from an old Shaka Smart thread.

Walter you are evil - and that is why I love you - all of you.

That is surprising given the respect and record he earned at JMU. I wonder how much more VA Tech was offering.
I was curious, so I did some digging. Brooks is a VT alumn and former VT classmate of current Hokies AD Whit Babcock. Also Brooks' daughter (until now, a presumptive JMU recruit) just committed to VT.

How do you know that?

I'll take Nashville over Richmond. I'll take VU over vcu.

All over their boards..because the AD is tweeting how they are working on things and the media is actually following and reporting minute by minute updates down there.

Bottom line is vcu is publicly posturing that they are working on-and I quote the AD-- "sweeteners" to his deal due to this year's success.

If Wade does head for the exits after this year - the meltdown over there would be of biblical proportions and be so tragic the angels would avert their eyes.

Jay Larranaga was discussed as a possible Vandy HC candidate on Nashville sports talk radio.

If Will Wade leaves, does vcu get a home and home w/Vandy? vcu likes to put that type of thing in the coaching contracts.

Actually, Brooks is a JMU alum and was quite a good player for the Dukes under Lefty.

"A 1992 graduate of James Madison, he played three seasons under legendary coach Lefty Driesell and made two NIT appearances while earning a degree in business management. He began his coaching career as a part-time assistant for the 1993-94 JMU men’s squad that won the CAA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament."

I see this as good news. I just don't think that highly of him as a coach. He inherited a nice bunch and won the games he should win, but arguably didn't win a single game that was even a toss-up. They might keep getting big time recruits to where they keep winning, but I think eventually he regresses the program to the middle of the pack.

Good for them. I guess. This actually tells me that Wade probably isn't that smart. OR that vcu is about to leverage everything on a HC of three years. It might work out for them, but it is risky.

In vcu's defense, they are doing what I have always thought made sense, that is, if you have a good coach you do what you have to do to keep him. The alternative is missing on the next coaching hire and you end up where we were with Hewitt.

It was a smart move by vcu and a smarter move by Wade. He has one season in with Shaka's talent and booked a pay raise. He locks in a raise with proving minimal.

I have done that at previous employers and it has always worked out well.

FakeWW got an 8 year contract with a raise and promised upgrades. Maybe he should run for president. He can make the best deals.

I wonder if there is an easy out if Clemson - his alma mater - comes calling? Except for his first year, Brownell hasn't been impressive.
