Wow, you are being a little bit too literal with the word rebuild, but I'll play along.

So if we continue with the construction related metaphor of rebuilding... We have a house with a bunch of bedrooms but no bathroom, no kitchen, etc. Those bedrooms work great, but at some point a person needs to use a bathroom, or the house is going be a mess. The person is needs a kitchen for it function well as a home. So, we have a house that needs major remodeling. It will probably take a minimum of two years to remodel since the local rules restrict us from remodeling more than 1 or 2 rooms a year.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Assuming Hewitt is fired after the season this is the roster a new coach will be working with (also assuming no one transfers, which of course some will but we won't know who so this is baseline)

PG Moore/Jackson
SG Holloway/Lockett?
SF Mayimba/Lockett/Jackson
PF Jenkins/Royal
C Thompson/Porter

Graduating Copes, Gray, Edwards

So you are telling me our new coach can't figure out a way to make that roster work?

I submit again the players aren't really the problem.

First off, I am not implying that players are the problem, just that he may not be recruiting the right mix of them.

I like how you listed Jackson and Locket twice. We have not seen them play ball yet, but, if we remove your little sleight of hand with the duplicated names and put Porter where some think he is a better fit, the roster (in terms of what the guys are actually capable of playing) may look more like:

PG Moore
SG Holloway
SF Mayimba/Lockett/Jackson
PF Jenkins/Royal/Porter
C Thompson

So I would say there is a great possibility that we are too heavy on wingmen

If Jackson can play point forward shouldn't he be listed twice?

Good question. All guesses here since I haven't seen him play college ball, but here is what I would guess:

He is a forward (wing man) who has a good handle on the ball.

On offense, he'll bring the ball up, get the commotion, I mean offense, started and then play like a wing man.

On defense, I have a hard time believing he will be able guard a10 point guards. So he will be effectively a wing man on D

If I am even close, I'd say he is still mostly a wing man in terms of what he does on court.

Hewitt said he would play 1 and 3. Im assuming by play he means both offense amd defense. Or is he going to call timeouts and sub offense for defense throughout the game. Yea know anything is possible with these "deep thinkers".

Jackson will be much much longer than most PGs he will face and that will bother them out on the perimeter. The only concern would be his lateral quickness, especially fighting through screens, but if your defensive philosophy is to switch on screens then that negative goes away, and so does the negative of having a 5'9 PG switch onto a 6'8 forward.

That is not what I was implying but nothing would surprise me.

I was just saying that when he is playing the 1 on defensive end, that I have a hard time believing he will be able to keep up with true A10 point guards. Hopefully I am surprised and one of his supposed match up problems actually works in our favor for once....

Gemini makes a good point. Given the switch on everything D we play, at least we won't suddenly have a huge disadvantage when all of our guys are interchangeable.

From the youtube videos I've seen of Jackson I seem to recall his team having a PG that brought the ball up the floor then handed it off to Jackson who ran the offense from the top of the key. I wouldn't say Jackson is going to bring the ball up the court and break pressure or even if he has a good handle. That all remains to be seen will be interesting to see how Hewitt uses him.

What the hell is Middlesex Magic? Sounds like 7th graders dry humping or something.

I do like that half of his highlight video is him playing defense and blocking shots. The kid has really good size for his age in terms of weight (listed at 230). He already appears to weigh 20 pounds more than Porter, but I have to admit I like the prospect of two 6-10 guys one day playing together.

Reminds me more of Chris Fleming

"I used to find these funny until I heard hewitt in person speak about how it negatively affects recruiting. I mean if you not going to be part of the solution then I think you should find a new team to root for."

"These kids are 16-18 years old, they are influenced by a lot that would make you think twice. The recruiting battles margin of victory is very small, if you don't believe that just ask the staff about shevon thompson, I did."

Are you assisting the staff in recruiting Collin McManus by comparing him to Chris Fleming on this message board?

Hell, we could use a couple of Chris Flemings on this team -- someone to bleed on the court, bust some heads when he has to, and fight for every loose ball; maybe not the most skilled player on the team, someone who knows he's never going to be a starter for the team, but knows his role and performs that role.

Favorite memory of Chris Fleming had to be the technical he got after crashing in from the foul line and laying home a monstrous putback dunk (might have been his senior night, can't remember the game -- I'm also pretty sure we were comfortably ahead at that point in the game too).

Gemini, could not agree with you more...Chris Fleming was one of the more under-appreciated players, especially his last two years. He could be counted on to make a positive contribution to the game in terms of attitude, rebounding, and defense. Heck, he even learned some pretty decent low post moves from watching Will Thomas.

Are you assisting the staff in recruiting by comparing every white players to previous white players at Mason?
