We will have Royal, Copes, Marko and Jenkins next year plus Porter. The questions are how much muscle will Porter gain this year? How effective will Royal be? Will Copes ever get his mojo back? What will Marko's junior season be like? Will Hewitt follow through on making Jenkins a two position player? And if so how many minutes will her play at small forward?
If Royal can contribute right away and Copes regains his mojo, they should be able to red-shirt Porter without issue.
Gemini, it's obviously just my opinion, but after watching Jenkins in actual college games, I'd say it's more likely that his two positions are the 4 and 5 than the 3 and 4.
I was assuming that Hewitt meant he wanted to try and turn Jalen into a 3, but with all the weight he's put on, I don't think there's any chance he could hang with 3s now on the defensive end. He's certainly strong enough already to handle himself defensively at the 5 and seems to be an instinctive shot blocker, so that's a plus.
Offensively, Royal already has a much more varied face-up game. He can make shots out to the 3 like Marko. I have no idea whether he can guard 3s either, but I'd say it's far more likely that Royal becomes a 3/4 combo than Jenkins.
Either way, I do think (barring injury) that we'll be able to RS Porter. For a kid with his upside to waste a year of eligibility would be a huge mistake.
