I am of the belief that we shouldn't do anything for the 10th anniversary because it will make us look like we are trying to squeeze the last drop from a cow that went dry a long time ago.

I can't understand why any Mason fan would not want to celebrate the Final Four run.

For me, 2006 was great but when people start talking about it like it was ancient history, it's time to move on. Outside of us hardcore fans, George Mason is just a blip now in basketball history.

Do you think you have to be a hardcore fan to appreciate Mason's place in basketball history?

We did bobble heads for the 5 year anniversary Pablo.

Pablo: You didn't answer my larger point. Does it or doesn't it make us look like we are living in the past if we honor 06 every 5-10 years?

It only looks that way if we have done nothing since then. Just as I would have no problem honoring the players who came before 06, I have no problem honoring the final four run's 10th anniversary.

I'm not saying we completely forget the accomplishments of our past. We've reached great heights in the past and this program should realize that it can be done again.

I think Mason should continue to honor the 2006 team. As much as its living on the past, it was an incredible time in our basketball program (and school's history) and should be celebrated at proper anniversaries (5-10 years etc). With that being said, other aspects should be celebrated as appropriate (honor the first NCAA team, honor the best players, etc), and hopefully Edwards realizes that these aspects are important to the program.

Now back to wondering what that final game will be for this upcoming season...

This is going to sound harsher than I intended, but who really gives a flying F about where we stand in basketball history?

The 2006 season was far more than a blip in our program's history. It's about damn time that somebody in a position of authority understands the significance of that singular event and stops trying to treat it like some stroke of dumb Cinderella luck.

I'm not saying we need to keep hammering people over the head with "2006" references, but we shouldn't be afraid to take pride in the accomplishment. It's already been proven that we can be enormously successful on the national stage -- now the prez and AD need to take steps to get us heading back in that direction.

And retire jerseys. First one is #21 Evans. Then you could argue butler, Yates, sanders, etc.

Well we've had three good years since 2006. 2008, 2009 and 2011.

I suppose we've done "something" but I would argue many hope that we can do more.

How many Patriot Platooners know who Dre Smith is? George Evans?

We have a rich and growing history. I'm just making the point that we should try to be 3D instead of 1D.

You should definitely honor the past like the 2006 run, but it doesn't mean you have to have an over the top red carpet gala to do it.

The bigger travesty is still George Evans. Not just what he means to Mason, but if you take a few moments to through wikipedia, you will find he is like 5-7 players ALL TIME ( I just skimmed but it was low) to win a Conference POY 3 times. And not even in smaller conferences do you see many 2x winners.

His accomplishment was outstanding nationally and historically and it is just sad to see him NOT acknowledged by the University.

I believe we understand that the problem is the George Mason Athletics Hall of Fame, specifically the Carlos Yates issue. Perhaps, with a new AD, it's time for fans like us to insist that the AD take appropriate action.

We should. I dont care what happened to him after he left Mason. Tragedy, sad story yes, but not the end of the world. We need to honor him for what he did AT MASON while wearing the jersey.

Right now kids see professional athletes abusing drugs, beating their wives, drunk driving, etc all while they are being paid millions to play ball..oh and by the way having the crime associated with their employer.

It's time for someone at Mason to get over the fear and grow a pair....

Yates deserves a spot regardless of what happened to him. In fact, including him and his story could be a tribute as well as a cautionary tale.

So bringing it back on topic...what game on the schedule would be the best to honor those guys? Would we get a bigger crowd for a game to "honor" the "starting 5"? If the AD is going to start honoring players, why not do 5 all at once to break the ice? Or is that too many?

I would guess homecoming whatever game that turns out to be. Otherwise vcu (we play vcu at home this year right?) or ODU makes the most sense.

If it was the old regime I am sure it would be on a snowy Tuesday night against somebody like McNeese St.....

Hmmm... that's one of those hypotheticals. TOC was presiding over the athletic operations that led to that FF team. Hypothetically, how can you say Stevens would have made the decisions that TOC made?

I sure hope we do not play vcu at homecoming. ODU is non conference and will probably be early in the season. My guess is a Fordham or Duquesne.
