Ah, I was kind of hoping it was MD saying - we want him, but not paying $10 mil buy out, and A&M saying - ok, we'll drop the buyout to $1 mil and throw in a pack of cigarettes.

GIVING DAY 2023
Looks like it’s down to Buzz or Skinn.

Annoying this is happening so late in the portal cycle—whoever Mason hires will be behind from day one.

If it’s Skinn, who’s next? Another assistant using Mason as a stepping stone?

Assistant options:
1. Steve Curran
2. Mike Jones (UMD staff, former DeMatha HC)

Retread options:
1. Ron Sanchez (UVA interim)
2. Mike Woodson (Indiana)
3. Tobin Anderson (fired from Iona)
4. Jared Grasso (off-court issues, charges dropped)

Mid-major risers:
1. Duane Simpkins – American
2. Brian Wardle – Bradley
3. Pat Skerry – Towson
4. Bob Richey – Furman
5. Robert Jones – Norfolk State

Or go bold—grab an NBA/G League coach looking for a long-term spot.

Assistant Options:
1 - Curran - (assuming Tony wouldn't hypothetically take him with Him to UMD)

2 - Luke Murray from UConn

3 - Brad Calipari - why not swoop him up and give him his first big shot? That family has NBA ties and recruiting ties. He's 29 and would give us a jolt. He should be one of our top targets.

Head Coach Options:

1 - Bashir Mason - Saint Peter's - Solid record at both Wagner and Saint Peter's which is even more impressive considering that He doesn't have much to work with in the way of facilities at SPU. A grind it out defensive focused coach with strong NYC and NJ recruiting ties to high schools.

2. Jeff Van Gundy or Mark Jackson - Both are excellent coaches. Coaching Mason could provide them the path back to being a Head Coach. It would also give Mason Athletics a jolt of national buzz.

3. Brian Wardle - Bradley - 4 postseasons so far in his time at Bradley. His team looked very crisp with it's shooting against us.

4. Speedy Claxton - Hofstra

5. Bucky McMillan - Samford

6. David Blatt - took the Cavaliers to the 2015 NBA Finals. Currently with Tel Aviv.

7. Duane - American U

Former Player Options:

1. Lamar Butler

2. Eric Maynor - current OKC Thunder Assistant

Wardle yes, Bucky Yes

Everyone else no. And Eric Maynor is definitely not coming lol.

There is strong support to hire a Maryland alum as coach -
Saw this as well but Tony would be considered to be a part of the "terp family". Again, from what I have heard it is still down to Buzz, Tony, and Duane. There is no way that Duane is going to say no if they offer it to him. The alumni do not want Buzz so I really think that it is between Tony and Duane.

It’s speculating but all basketball reporters are suggesting Skinn
All good - There hasn't been anything concrete so I thought maybe you found something. :)
Just curious why you wouldn’t try Brad Calipari and Bashir Mason? There’s substance to both imo.
Calipari - its too soon. He hasn't even been an assistant coach yet.
Bashir Mason hasn't been doing great at St Peters although he was good last year and made the tournament. I'd like to hope with the money we are putting into basketball we'd aim a little higher if it needs to happen. Think power 5 assistants.

Mike Jones is the HC at ODU.

Not assuming anything, but if Tony thought he was a legit candidate for another job I don’t think he’d be bringing guys in to visit — particularly because none of them are clearly on a level where he could take them with him to a place like Maryland.

Feels pretty indicative of a coach who is planning to be at Mason for at least one more season.
