Just want to point out:

It’s been 3 full days since Coach Skinn’s extension was announced by the school, and outside of a quote in the article, he’s yet to publicly acknowledge it. Not even a retweet.

Could mean absolutely nothing, but it feels weird to me.

We are going to just hold our breath for the next 2 days.

So far nothing has hit my circles of materiality. Things could change but the more it stays quiet - the better our chances.

Tony did say this early on in his first year as head coach here

But that was when he was getting paid 900K, every one of us would change our tune if someone was throwing more than 2 mil at us.

When all is said and done - it is the one basic reason why we really can't fault FKE for taking the Providence gig. But I still will anyway out of spite - that is really the point of sports fandom anyways.

I can semi confirm that UMD interviewed Buzz.

Couple more Zoom interviews for them (which probably wouldn't be CTS), they hope to make their hire by Tuesday (so possibly announce day or two later).

I'm now on the hook for a PTO sponsorship in exchange for this info - your welcome everyone ;)

Do Coaches tweet out their extension?Who can we compare such a reaction to?

Not exactly sure what you’re asking.

Kent State’s Coach had a really nice message following his extension a couple of days ago.

With a coach that is semi-active on social media, a program that just created a new fundraising initiative, and a Giving Day this coming week, I’d just expect some kind of acknowledgment outside of the quote in the article.

This good publicity for Tony and the program. Recruits will now know that he is an up and coming coach who is loyal to his alma mater. They will not be taking a chance on a two year coach, they will be signing up to play for a future star coach.

No doubt it is because he is talking to Maryland. Tony is not going to mislead anyone and until he(and Maryland) make a decision, he is not going to acknowledge the extension because it will come across as he is 100% staying at Mason, and that decision has not been made by him yet. My understanding is he has talked to Maryland and may have something more official in the next day. They reached out within the last 2 weeks to see if he was interested and he did not say no. Duane Simpkins is also someone that is 100% in the mix. I honestly think it is down to those two as Maryland wants someone who is fully committed to the school/program because of Willard just pulled. I am holding out hope that Tony believes he has unfinished business and will turn the job down until he gets Mason back to the dance. If we had made the tourney this year I think he would have already been announced as the twerps next coach.

Ooof. Would obviously be a gut punch.

Also, generally, when the coach leaves for a power conference school, the mid major school he leaves at least had the joy of making the big dance. Sigh.

That would be an interesting chart - list of mid major coaches hired by power conferences and whether they had made the NCAA's. English aside obviously.

And the AU fans are hoping Simpkins feels the same about unfinished business.

I agree. The difference is that Tony is a Mason Alum and I know that means something to him. Also- I’m hoping he remembers that Maryland didn’t want him as a player back in the day. I have vivid memories of him and a couple other guys back around 05/06 talking about how much they hated UMD for passing them up. Hoping he still has a little bit of that fire in him.

Me too! But if he didn't want the job, he wouldn't have talked to them. Assuming of course that he did. And with all the silence, it's likely he has/is.
