Coaching Carousel 2025

Besides Buzz Williams, Maryland will be coveted.

I would think Shaka Smart would be interested in this gig. Problem is they don't have an AD either.

I would love for Mason to go after Deshawn Harris-Smith once he hits the portal at UMD. Lamar coached him at PVI.

"And the hire is …

Beard, Byington or Williams, if — and that’s a big 'if' — Maryland can convince any of them to give up their SEC gigs. All three led their teams to the NCAA Tournament this season and would seemingly ensure there’s no drop-off in College Park. (Byington is probably the most gettable of the three, and his regional ties are a bonus, even if he’s not a 'big' name.) But there’s no guarantee any of the three would be willing to leave the SEC — in which case, the Terps could do a lot worse than bringing back former assistant Tony Skinn. Skinn’s star feels like it’s on the rise, and while Maryland might be hiring him a cycle too early, that’s better than the alternative: waiting too long and missing out."

Shaka ain’t going to MD. He’s at a basketball only BE school. Wouldn’t make any sense....Buzz makes sense because he's probably figured out by now that basketball is not the 2nd sport at A&M it's actually 4th behind spring football and football recruiting.
I would tend to agree but the basketball only thing is going to ultimately end up being a negative as the landscape continues to change. There is going to be sports institutes and schools ‘that play sports’ while on the surface you may say ok same thing but it’s becoming very different as the sec set a mandate to pay every single basketball player 450k. We are in uncharted waters… where does the big10 go? Where does any of this go? It’s weird times.

Tony is very much in the mix. I’m hearing it’s probably down to 3. Buzz, Simpkins, and Tony. Simpkins and Tony would be cheaper and have a lot of DMV connections so they are likely the top 2. Unless something crazy happens the hire will be one of those 3.

Per Maryland’s interim AD - they will have a coach by Tuesday (I have an inside source). Not sure if that means it will be announced by then, but would expect shortly after.

Literally got this info at the neighborhood playground haha.
