Please do not confuse this "exhibition" with our regular season game on December 28 against Mt. St. Mary’s.

No detailed write up on my part due to the fact that it’s an exhibition. I’ve been spending my time and energy preparing for the games that will actually count.

No excuses though, get out to EBA and support our Patriots!

St. Mary’s (Md.) is a D3 program competing in the United East Conference. They were 16-12 (9-3) last season. The Seahawks advanced to the Volt Division Final by beating Gallaudet and Lancaster Bible before falling to Penn State Harrisburg in the final.

The Seahawks lost 3 of their top 4 scorers from last season. They do return 3rd leading scorer, 6’6” Jake Koverman, who averaged 11.2 ppg. The St. Mary’s roster includes 6 freshmen.

Will we actually learn anything from this?

Discuss.

We will not learn much about this team (other than maybe how seriously they take an exhibition).

But it also is the first chance to see the newcomers and what they’re going to bring to the team in terms of personality, style, and skill sets.

1-2 hours away? Don't give people that easy an out.

Even people 4 hours out should be there. Hmmm ... I hope nothing comes up now that I've thrown down the gauntlet!

I will try not to confuse the two, thanks.

Disappointing to not have a detailed write up on St. Mary's strengths and weaknesses. I realize though you are extremely busy preparing for the season.

I will try to get out to Eagle Bank Arena to support the Patriots.

I hope it's not a Randolph Macon scenario. I'm always leery of these exhibitions after that one.

Did Tony mention how he might approach this game during the open practice?

Randolph Macon was National Champs (D-3) a couple of years ago. They are still a top 10 D-3 team. They would probably give GMU a tough game.

I guess my broader point is the risk of potential Washington post headlines of D3 school or D2 school beats D1 school outweigh the rep minutes the guys get imo. Do people share my sentiment or am I just risk averse since I attended that Randolph loss as a student ?

PERSONALLY, and I am not the coach

but from a fan's perspective who has to pay for a ticket to see the game

if we must play a D2-D3 team I'd prefer it be someone local (to bring in more fans/revenue)
or it be the previous season National Champ or one of this year's contenders (the best assemblage of talent in that division)

BTW
I was in McDonough Gym when Georgetown lost to the D2 or D3 team from Kentucky which marked the decline and the end of JTIII's Georgetown Coaching career.
That team acted like they had just won a National Championship, and the rest of the gym was in shock at what they had witnessed.

Washington Post headlines, that's a good one. I don't think the Compost printed a single game story about a Mason home game last season.
