Oskaloosa--Karmari Newman (Jr., Detroit, Mich., Digital Communication) is knocking down long balls at a frantic pace, and for that great play, he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
Newman notched his first career award after leading #6 WPU (12-1, 6-1 Heart) to three victories last week.
On Monday against Clarke, the junior scored a season-high 32 points. He then tacked on a 17-point performance versus Graceland Thursday, before closing out the week with another 25 against Evangel Saturday.
Newman averaged 24.7 points for the week in addition to seven rebounds, six assists, six steals, and one block. A perimeter shooter by trait, he shot a stellar 57.9% overall, including a 58.6% clip from behind the arc. The junior was also strong at the line with an 86.7% mark.
For the season, Newman is averaging 19.2 points per game in addition to 3.2 rebounds; he has 20 assists, 14 steals, and one block to his credit as well. The guard is shooting 46.2% from the field, while leading the Statesmen from three-point land (44.9%) and from the free-throw line (90.9%)."
