"ORLANDO - Chandler McCabe has joined the UCF women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, head coach Sytia Messer announced on Thursday.

McCabe comes to UCF from George Mason, where she aided a program turnaround from 10-19 and 3-12 in conference play to 16-15 overall and 8-8 in league action over the span of just two seasons.

McCabe served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Patriots and predominantly worked with the post players. While at George Mason, she coached and recruited all-conference selection Nalani Kaysia, as she was part of the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team for the 2022-2023 season. She also recruited and coached transfer Amaya Scott, who averaged 15.8 points per game in her senior campaign for the Patriots in 2021-2022."

Brooks was a Mason assistant coach during the Paul Westhead era.

"Kellogg joined the coaching ranks in 1997, working two seasons for Jim Larrañaga at George Mason before serving as an assistant coach at Youngstown State in 1999-2000. He then spent eight seasons working for Calipari as an assistant coach at Memphis from 2000-08. The Tigers won at least 21 games and advanced to the postseason all eight campaigns, including four trips to the Sweet 16, three trips to the Elite Eight and a spot in the 2008 national championship game. Among the staff he worked with at Memphis from 2003-06 was current Bluejay assistant coach Ryan Miller."

"Balzer joins Longwood from George Mason University, where she spent the previous four years as a member of the women's basketball team. Her career was cut short due to injuries, but spent her final year in Fairfax on the sidelines as a coaching intern for the Patriots.

'Rachel is a young coach on the rise,' said Lang-Montgomery. 'A host of injuries at George Mason propelled her into coaching. She benefitted from her time on the sidelines, gaining knowledge from the coaches there as she was able to assist in different areas of the program.'

In addition to her time with the Patriots coaching staff, Balzer also served as the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and Sports Performance/Advanced Training for Evolution Basketball Training, a basketball training company based in the Northern Virginia area. Balzer graduated from George Mason with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a minor in coaching and recently began working on her master's in educational psychology with a concentration in learning cognition and motivation.

'I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the Longwood women's basketball program,' said Balzer. 'I am looking forward to learning and working with Coach E and her staff. This team is special and I'm excited to be a part of it!'"
