When will the Press Conference Be?

Yeah, I understand both sides (would detract/wouldn't detract). Since, during the last couple games, the commentators have discussed the likelihood he will be replaced, I kind of think it would detract more by not doing it immediately. There might be more discussion about it until it happens. Is it really a surprise if it happens? If they were to announce it shortly after the loss or first thing in the morning, it would be noted and possibly forgotten. Then again, I guess the speculation about who we were going to hire might attract some attention. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

I predict a typo-filled press release is put out Saturday night around 11:00.

I don't think there will be any typos. I think they already know what to do and have been working on a well thought out press release for some time. It has been proof-read a hundred times, gone through user studies, analyzed thoroughly by legal a couple of times, and signed off at all levels.

The question is.... when will it be published?

C'mon, man, this is Mason we're talking about. Typos are a must.

I found the comment below by TOC about replacing Westhead interesting given the narrow parameters he used to replace Coach L.

O'Connor said the search would begin immediately for a successor to Westhead. He said the selection process was "wide open.''

I agree! Compared to his hiring of Paul Hewitt, the selection process for Larranaga was certainly above reproach.

So, did the latter hiring indicate an act of desperation?

I am really beginning to think I have no confidence in our School Administrators. I was expecting an announcement today. I am agreeing with PDGL hoops, I don't believe our school has the $ to pay the buyout of his contract. We are stuck with Hewitt next year, despite the fact, the school might lose half of their season ticket fanbase.

I'm really not sure why so many of you think an in-season firing is going to happen. How many in-season firings happen at schools like Mason with lower donor support? Pat Kennedy was pretty awful at Towson and even he wasn't fired til after the season.

Based on nothing other than watching Edwards' body language during our home games, I'm thinking there is a 95% chance Hewitt is gone. Brad's been involved in sports long enough to know there is no way to slow down — let alone reverse — this runaway train.

There are sites that track coaches on the hot seat. I constantly get private messages asking for information on when Hewitt will be fired. Like a guy with a Twitter account called @FirePaulHewitt would actually have any insider info. Maybe they think Brad Edwards is secretly behind the Twitter account.

I don't think many think he IS GOING TO BE fired before the end of the season, including me, one of the most vocal proponents of it. We just think he SHOULD be fired before earning the bonus.

Did Pat Kennedy have a longevity bonus? If so, I bet they fired him before he earned it. Everyone keeps using the before the end of the season metric. I'd like to see the metric on how many coaches were fired within two weeks after earning a longevity bonus. I bet there will only be one example you can find if we don't fire Hewitt before Sunday. I bet most coaches are fired within a month before earning a longevity bonus.
