So are you saying that you wouldn't' want to extend English 3 years at this point?

Not saying he deserves that much of an extension. But to me, judging from how the market for coaches is, I would definitely throw a year or two at Kim if he stays.

Is there a rush? No not really, but when you see Urgo get extended after his first year (and yes he did amazing things according to Fordham standards in year 1), and many coaches get extensions, I would hope that Mason would do the same thing. Now obviously, it means absolutely nothing other than its optics that the school is trying to keep someone and is behind them. Its just my .02. Last thing I want to hear is that Kim didnt' feel like Mason valued him and didn't give him the extension he felt he deserved (or any extension).
I threw the 3 year extension out there because that is where I think it would get unreasonable. 1 year courtesy, sure. 2 years, I start to get uncomfortable. 3 years is a no go for someone who hasn't proven a thing and it's got to hamstring you financially.... I do agree with the optics comment.

I'll say this. If it does happen, you'd have to do an unbelievable job of convincing me that the replacement's initials should not be TS.

I'm just saying it wouldn't be crazy for them to look at CKE's way.
Sure you are right. But why just look CKE's way. They might have 10 coaches to consider. Are they just looking at 2 guys? Is that smart? Or are a few agents blowing smoke. Rothstein and Goodman will probably have a new name by morning. All i know is if I'm PC, im not hiring someone who can't recruit a solid PG in the A10 when recruitiing is supposed to be his strong suit.

All good. Fwiw they extended Joe Scott at Air Force until 2028 and keeps finishing in 10th. Not saying it’s the same but just an example I randomly came across a few minutes ago.

If KE has been approached and if he is considering this move, he needs to decide now. If he waits and strings out the decision he screws us big time. He owes us that much. We'll need to get a new coach in place in time to deal with the portal, talk with incoming recruits about staying, and talk with current players the new coach considers to be keepers. IF this is happening make up your mind now!

So I guess IF this does happen all of us will have to pull together to get the hiring done considering we don't have an AD....

IF we DO extend Kimmy 2-3 years, I would have a hefty buyout in place. I don't want to deal with this crap every year.

Do we even have a buyout in place now? I don't want to give Brad Edwards that much credit.

Buyout would be 1 million if he leaves before 4/1 or $750k if he leaves after 4/1 (should have been May 1, but that’s what was negotiated).

We don’t even have a permanent AD. Who is going to conduct the search/interview candidates? Whether he leaves now or a few weeks from now wouldn’t matter, Mason has already screwed itself.

Would appear athletics is still a side door…

Anyone have any idea on how this search process is going?

Let's face it....this is college basketball in the 21st century.

It's a business. Coach or player. You move to the opportunity presented. And especially for a Coach....you are financially set for life even if you fail, because the P5s are in arms race worse then ever. They will gladly buy you out for millions and move on if you are even average.

And worse for us...we have proven over and over...like not having an AD now....that Mason is not a place to build something long term.

I’m obviously all in on the Tony Skinn bandwagon (you know me), but what if we go the Fordham route and just offer Nate Tomlinson (whom KE called a genius and destined for the NBA?) I have no idea if that would be a good idea, but can’t underestimate continuity

You can name Nate Interim head coach for a year but no way they can commit 4-5 years on him without knowing more. May come down to that honestly. With no ad and whatever is going on, could be worse could end up with Felton as interim head coach if American hires skinn and simpkins bolts.

He’s a bit green (think he was DOBO at Colorado and this is his first assistant gig).

Does Kim's contract have the "vcu clause" where we get a home-and-home within 4 years with the school that hires him away?
We all hate vcu, but give them credit, that contract clause is very creative.

That’s why you only hire him on an intern basis because you can’t get anyone else due to not having an AD. Without an AD they may not be quick to make a terrible hire that you are locked into for 5 years.

Time to queue up the coaching carousel thread. We are dancing in worst case waters here with how this situation is shaping up.
