GIVING DAY 2023
I am no doctor but do know if you keep getting the same stress fracture on the same foot (what I heard has happened) it most likely will never be the same. He had 7 months of rest/rehab and he was obviously not the same player (he could barely run). I love Kier just like the next guy but the Kier from last year before the injury is dead and gone. He can adapt to a new game I am sure but jeesh Jim you ever broken a foot before?

He had 7 months of rest/rehab? This is news to me. I thought he hurt his foot in October and was back on the floor in November?

Would be weird if AJ and JDS both transfer and Boyd and Kier stick around for their 5th seasons.

You'd probably see Miller basically shift to the 4 full-time, if that's the case, which would be unfortunate for him, but probably good for the team.
And I think Jordan is a top notch player and kid. But we have no defense from our guards as it is (get blown by 100 times a game) you now take away a top 10 shot blocker in the nation and and stick Jordan there (not his game which is fine) and expect to be better defensively and all around? How does that work slim?

I think everyone should be under the assumption that we currently have 0 scholarships available with 1 guy that will certainly get a medical redshirt (Boyd who by all intents wants to come back) and another (Kier who knows if he wants to come back or if he will qualify for it... he is right at the cusp of games played for a normal medical redshirt)... Plus we have a kid who will garner some 6th 7th man offers from power 5 basketball conferences (I already know one school smells blood in water)... No, I don't expect AJ, Kier AND Boyd to come back next year. Not by a long shot. so no the program won't be better IMO

If JDS transfers and Boyd comes back, I'd say losing AJ will suck, but won't be catastrophic, even if Kier doesn't, because Boyd/Miller at the 3 and 4 would be better than a Miller/Mar combo or a <insert player here>/Miller combo, or trying to start Henry at the 4 as soon as he gets here (although, maybe he'll make us forget AJ was missing?).

Kier worked out all offseason and didn't get injured until September, you don't have to make shit up

I'm not saying we'll be a better defensive team, I'm saying having Boyd and Kier available on the wings and having Miller starting at the 4 will make a better team than having Miller at the 3 and who knows starting at the 4 (Mar or Henry, I'd guess).

watch some Henry videos and film and although he is going to be a great player he is no AJ in for what AJ brings to us defensively. Miller and I am laughing hard at Mar will also be incapable of it

But think of how horrible our offense is right now, and tell me you wouldn't rather have Boyd and Kier being able to actually make shots, while also having Miller as your 2nd/3rd option? Greene, XJ, Hartwell, and Oduro/Calixte, none of them have to be primary or secondary, or even tertiary options.

What we lose defensively with AJ might be made up for on the other side of the ball.

All I'm saying is, if given the choice (Kier and Boyd both come back) versus AJ and JDS both come back, I'll take option 1.

I would take AJ over a twice injured Kier and Boyd (who I always thought was supremely overrated but I like him as a player don't get me wrong). I do get your point offensively.. But our offense kinda sucked when Kier and Boyd were both playing as well and I don't think Boyd moves the needle. A healthy Kier definitely does but it's sad that probably won't ever happen again. He will never be Justin of the best times again.

So now we’re operating under the assumption that AJ is leaving and Kier’s foot will not heal following surgery and eight months of rest/rehab?

That would certainly work to your advantage in getting rid of the coach.

Jim I know you don't attend/watch the games to see these things, but there were some pretty decent indicators last night at GW that AJ is probably done with Mason after this season.

Anyone who thinks Boyd is making a difference one way or another when he comes back is nuts. Love what he's done for the program, great blue collar player, but he's bang average/streaky on offense, and while a good rebounder for his height, nothing we don't have with the current healthy guys.

Could this team really be losing Kier, Boyd, JDS, and AJ all in one off-season? Bring on the Ivy league grad transfers Lil Dave!

See Jim's prediction in November:

"Unfortunately, Boyd has played his last game in a Mason uniform. Kier could redshirt and come back for a fifth year — he’s not going to, but he could — because we’re going to have one transfer out after this season and I think we all know who it is."
