MASON ALERT: FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON JALEN HAYNES IS IN UNIFORM AND TAKING WARMUPS
Woulda been great to have him available with Malik out, and hindsight being 20/20 on Kelly getting ejected.
Hard to predict, but for sure Kelly will be out of eligibility after this year and Malik will probably be done. So we'll need to replace their size. And, we'd have Haynes for the full season, not just the 2/3ds of the season that is left for this one.Has Mason made the correct decision on Haynes? Tough to know now I suppose. Watching Tennessee vs. NC State right now and the Wolfpack have a guy in Haynes situation playing.
Doesn’t Haynes and Malik get a covid year? If so, Haynes has 2 years and Malik 1 yr after this season.
Malik has proven, without doubt, that he bleeds Green and Gold. I have no doubt that this is NOT his final season.Hard to predict, but for sure Kelly will be out of eligibility after this year and Malik will probably be done. So we'll need to replace their size. I hope Skinn staff continues to shows him the love he deserves. I don’t want Malik to even consider the portal next season.Malik has proven, without doubt, that he bleeds Green and Gold. I have no doubt that this is NOT his final season.
I want so badly for Malik to play in an NCAA tournament game in a Mason uniform. It would only be right for the loyalty, commitment and class he has shown during his time in Fairfax.I hope Skinn staff continues to shows him the love he deserves. I don’t want Malik to even consider the portal next season.
Malik has been my favorite Mason player since Ryan Pearson.
I agree 100%.I hope Skinn staff continues to shows him the love he deserves. I don’t want Malik to even consider the portal next season.

D. Dinkins | G | Out indefinitely - Back ( Mon, Nov 6) |
The Dinkins redshirt is something no one has discussed but is a bit strange to me. From videos looks like he’s been practicing with the team for at least a month now. I understand there’s no pressing need to activate him because of our depth at PG but curious what happened there. This is no surprise, but I assume that the redshirt is official - https://www.covers.com/sport/basketball/ncaab/injuries

I was under the impression from previous posts on here that you don't request/receive an official redshirt until after the season has been completed, presumably, so they can apply their formula based on how many games you played in.Is Dinkins officially redshirted? I don't recall seeing that anywhere, just that he's indefinitely out with the back injury.
Two year period? Would that mean he has to sit next year as well?
So Haynes has to sit 2 years unless Mason gets a waiver for him to play next year? All bc we we hired his coach?13.8.3.3 Individual Associated with a Prospective Student-Athlete -- Men's Basketball. In men's basketball, during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment and a two-year period after the prospective student-athlete's actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ (either on a salaried or volunteer basis) or enter into a contract for future employment with an individual associated with the prospective student-athlete in any athletics department staff position other than a countable coach who may contact or evaluate prospective student-athletes off campus. (Adopted: 1/16/10, Revised: 6/13/11, 1/18/23 effective 7/1/23)
13.8.3.3.1 Application. A violation of Bylaw 13.8.3.3 occurs if an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete (see Bylaw 13.02.20) is employed by the institution and, at the time of employment, a student-athlete who enrolled at the institution in the previous two years (and remains enrolled at the institution) was a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete. A violation of Bylaw 13.8.3.3 also occurs if an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete is employed and, within two years after such employment, a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete enrolls as a full-time student in a regular academic term at the institution. In either case, the student-athlete becomes ineligible for intercollegiate competition unless eligibility is restored by the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. (Adopted: 6/20/13)
Student-Athlete Reinstatement
"Student-Athlete Reinstatement (SAR) is a team within the NCAA's academic and membership affairs department. The SAR staff processes violations and waivers that directly affect the eligibility of a prospective student-athlete or an enrolled student-athlete. When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the prospective student-athlete or enrolled student-athlete ineligible and may request their eligibility be reinstated through the Requests/Self Reports Online (RSRO) system. The SAR staff reviews each student-athlete reinstatement request individually based on its own merits and set of specific facts.
SAR Philosophy
SAR subscribes to the Students-first philosophy, ensuring the individual student-athlete, as well as the general student-athlete body, is at the forefront of each decision. With respect to a violation, SAR attempts to place the student-athlete back in the position he or she would have been prior to the violation occurring. SAR does this by evaluating the totality of the circumstances surrounding each particular case."
