Welcome Coach Tony Skinn!

This does feel a little like the end of a curse. We didn't stay in the Coach L tree in 2011 instead hiring a has been, following him with a safe, high floor/low ceiling pick, then going with the shiny new toy.

Returning to the tree that built us and bringing in someone that sees this as The job versus a job should serve us well. Now let's hit that portal and start building!

Now that its official, I can assure everyone that Tony was our top choice from the jump. He was vetted and passed all the hurdles needed. In addition, from my understanding, there were discussions of what he needed and making sure that Mason was held accountable. I do not have specifics but you can take a guess that it probably was around recruiting, NIL, staff budget etc. My guess is that is why it took a little longer but I am happy to be corrected if that wasn't the case.

I will also be interested to see what his contract is. I haven't heard or seen anything yet, but if I had to guess, its probably 5 years at around 950 or 1m per year. Probably a little more than English 2 years ago.

Its a great day to be Mason fan and alum. We were all excited about English and we are thankful that he got us in a very competitive direction, challenging the status quo and making us all believe that there is no reason why that Mason cannot recruit/obtain the talent that he pulled in (one way or another).

Plenty of work to do still, but for now its a very exciting time that one of our own who helped build the program we all love (and hang that huge banner that is collecting dust) is now in charge. The best way we can all show support is throwing a few bucks at the mens basketball program today much like many of us did when English was hired.

Go Mason!
f**k YEAH BITCHES!!!!

Now who will Skinn bring in for his assistants? He did cross paths with Greg Odom at Ohio state for a year, when Odom was a graduate assistant.

Now Odom is a Director of Basketball Operations at Butler. It looks like Odom wants to get into coaching. So maybe he will take a promotion to Mason? Why not right?

I hope one of the coaches he brings in can specialize in developing big men.

Agreed. I only heard two names being seriously considered, but i heard the same in that Tony was #1. Either way, it was going to be a hire with DIRECT ties to the Coach L lineage and that successful era of Mason basketball. Suffice to say, the administration knew they not only had to get a solid coach, but one that truly appreciates/remembers what it took to get Mason to where they used to be. No interest in using another coaches or mentor's playbook. This person needs to understand this community and this university.

I haven't been told any specifics either, aside from the fact that the wait WAS due to us going back and forth and working through the finer points of a deal. I don't think it was so much about money as it was the complimentary pieces laid out by @mkaufman1 ... Simply put, our administration knew from the jump that we'd get Tony back, simply had to work through the details.

Thank you so very f**king much!! Now what are the limits that won't get me to jail???
If you donate $2401 to any election campaign, you get a meet-and-greet session with a G-man, but uhhh...not the ones who sit behind the basket in morph suits.

I still like Huger being one.

And Odom is interesting ... Tony will need someone who can coach the big men. Maybe even Scott Cherry.
