Ways the team is being promoted or marketed in the community

In the past, there were those Mason Nation We're a Hoops Sensation DC Metro Ads or even ads on the buses.

What or How would You like George Mason Men's Basketball to be packaged or marketed in our media fragmented era?

Obviously winning helps but we need to toot our own horn better or something to get more fans to the games.

i believe there was a slightly missed opportunity with Georgetown recently being in the toilet.
AND I HAVE NO IDEA OF THE COSTS

advertise in selected metro subway stations
and add in bus service from the end of the orange line to Eagle Bank arena
starting 2hours from tipoff and ending an hour after the end of the game

Where does the bus stop that goes from the Orange Line to campus now? On the other side right? I’m trying to remember because I used to have to take it sometimes flying back the school in the winter.

I might have a presence at the Washington Spirit games too, even though it’s a different sport.

Didn't Doc Nix and the green machine do drums infront for either wizards or caps games?

That's marketing in a way

I just thought of another thing they did once shortly after the Final Four, maybe 2008, that I thought was a cool idea (and probably didn’t get enough traction to keep it going), was a fall sports season ticket package where your season ticket was a soccer style George Mason scarf (it was like $40 if I remember correctly). If they tried that again, they should have basketball season ticket promos at all the fall sports events for the scarf wearers.

Let’s take inspiration from minor league baseball and the Savannah Bananas by focusing on the overall fan experience rather than just the games.

Here are a few strategies we can implement:

1. Utilize Social Media: Showcase the fun and unique aspects of our games on social media. Highlight fan reactions, behind-the-scenes content, and special events to create buzz and engagement.

2. Enhance the Fan Experience: improved halftime shows and themed nights to keep the excitement high, and give fans a reason to post to social media.

3. More Gimmicks and Giveaways posted to Social media.

Sample Savanah banana social media post.

They do see your emails, they just don't respond to it. They still saw it tho
The rat race culture in Northern Virginia, with its focus on success and risk aversion, influences how George Mason University operates. The administration often takes the safe route, hesitant to try new things because they fear failure or stepping out of line. This cautious approach means they often stick with what’s been done before, causing them to lag behind other schools that are willing to take chances and innovate. This mindset makes it hard for George Mason to keep up with new trends limiting the university’s potential to grow and stand out.

Completely agree with you on this.

I will say some ideas like tabling with another sports team requires cooperation from the other team to make it happen. Why cooperation wouldn’t happen is mind boggling but regardless.

I always say, it’s one thing if the attempt was made and not done if it was outside of control. It’s another if it wasn’t done at all. I always thought we’d get football nights under Brad and Dg. Whether they tried or got laughed at, I have no idea.

Just my .02. Not saying that creativity or fresh ideas aren’t always welcomed. It’s just not as simple as we make it sound in some situations.

The Mason Maniaks Instagram says 733 new members and that they went to 170
Home games. They seem to be doing something right. Can anyone report if they have a presence beyond IG?

How heavily do you think Georgetown’s 1AA team is or was weighed (I know they are a Jesuit school) as a comparable where we would start scenario? Do you think the Mason Power Brokers looked at their Hoya 1AA attendance numbers and the money that would be required and just chose that safe fear of failure route?

The last time it was seriously Considered was in 1998. I’m pretty sure the coach we initially hired to start up the club team was promised that we’d start up a non-scholarship 1AA program eventually and 98 was the year we basically permanently reneged on that promise.
