Lumber Liquidators settled with the DOJ for ~$10 million.

I did find out about something else regarding the Rams practice facility that seemed to have been missed on these boards. http://richmondbizsense.com/2015/07/10/hdl-reneges-on-vcu-deal-trustee-questions-cash-transfers/

HDL also recently informed vcu that it will not be able to fulfill the $4 million pledge it made to the school’s athletic department three years ago, the school confirmed this week.

HDL, once one of the city’s fastest-growing and most generous corporations, failed to pay its most recent $400,000 annual installment to the school due June 30.

I have no problem with GMU, was a local "fan" in high school during the Final Four but decided to choose vcu instead of UVA and Mason after I got back from basic. I hope DP brings back the program.

That said, if you are going to mention HDL I want to add that vcu signed a $2 million a year sponsorship for media rights. This is a $20 million/10 year contract; similar to one Georgetown signed - both in the spring. Georgetown signed one that ranges between $1.5-3 million per year depending on performance or something.

That more than makes up for the 400k HDL signed on per year to sponsor the practice facility that opens next week.

Who's the Mason fan who started the parody Twitter "vcu = 0 championships" account? Or the one tweeting at Top 60 recruit De'riante Jenkins not to commit to vcu before he did?

What the hell does it matter?

Be nice to vcu fans/grads. The fries are coming out faster these days. Gotta show some respect.

Oh, I was only saying that to address him asking who the Mason fans were with the twitter handles, like it matters if anyone knows who it is. I found it funny that someone felt the need to pop up in their defense, since there was no insult given just a reference to the issue. It's like Al Sharpton popping up to defend OJ.

You turned down UVA? That's pretty rare, except for folks who pick another Tier 1, such as W&M. vcu have a specific program, or offer scholarships? I know that UVA can be inflexible in some programs. They contacted me to apply to Darden after I took the GMAT in the early 90s, but at the time they required an overseas internship to graduate, which I just couldn't do. (with Mason's "globalization" theme lately, I wonder if we're heading in that direction as well)

I graduated from McLean HS and joined the military for a time - did several semesters at NVCC and other community colleges while I had to fulfill training and deployment obligations. When I was able to transfer to a 4 year institution, the partnership that NVCC has with all the state schools (I think above a 3.5 GPA = automatic acceptance) allowed to choose between my 3 favored schools, UVA/GMU/vcu. I chose vcu due to my new unit being down there, as well as my (now) wife.

I read these boards to stay current on Mason, still would like to see them do well. I'm not jumping on here to defend vcu all the time, just thought this was a good thread and time to respond. You guys have a fun 3 day weekend, we're all looking forward to CBB season!

Well, there ya go. I would certainly hope that if your wife is down there that your unit would be too.

Thanks, for stopping by it has been dead around here :).

Had not heard about the media rights contract. Lumber and HDL withstanding your fundraising since the FF has been impressive. Though I have heard (anecdotal) that higher level individual donors have been turned off lately due to the AD's excessive inquiries/requests for upping their donation $'s. We are probably on the other end of the spectrum, not aggressive enough.

That's cool, thank you for your service to our country, and it makes sense for those reasons that you needed to be nearby. I also had to consider geographical proximity for family reasons, with my choices being George Mason and Mary Washington.
