Also, consider how much a difference a year makes in terms of our roster and roles:

PGs: Moore, Livingston
SG: Holloway, Murrell
SF: Mayimba, Abram
PF: Jekins, Gujanicic, Royal
C: Thompson, Dixon

I don't hate it, I just wish we hadn't lost Jenkins.

It may not translate into major minutes right away, but if Mayimba is eligible he might be the best pure athlete in the A-10.

Considering that DP helped Mike Muscala get to the NBA, I can't wait to see what he can do with a 6-7 leaper who hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of his ability.

Jim,

I'm not challenging you on this--I'm just curious what you are basing your evaluation of Mayimba on? Have you seen him play? I certainly want to believe that he's as good as you say.

I've only seen him play in person one time -- I don't get to many HS games anymore since I'm just a regular news grunt -- but even playing with other future D-I guys, it was obvious Mayimba was the most explosive athlete on the floor.

Based on his scouting report and videos, he's a strong 6-7 kid who has a very quick first step, ridiculous hops and is a lockdown defender, but is raw from a skill perspective.

In short, he was an ideal Hewitt player.

I really am curious to see what a fundamentally sound coach like DP can do with all those tools.

I've heard this from 3 current players that Mayimba was/is the most complete all around player from our class last year. Holloway told me at an event last year that Mayimba can do it all and he is just a beast on the court. Take it for what it's worth but when 3 players all say pretty much the same thing then I'll take their word for it.

You mean Jackson.
I think he was referring to the fact that the lineup contained Jekins, but no Jenkins.

Assuming we can re-recruit Jenkins, the starting line up of

Moore
Holloway
Mayimba
Jenkins
Thompson

is pretty talented and has the potential to be dangerous. I am not predicting miracles, but, If Paulsen can get them clicking with one another, this year might not be as horrendous as we have visions of it being.

Thanks Jim (and Tweeder as well)! Sounds like something to get excited about!

That is a very nice starting 5, but we're going to be hurting for depth unless the freshmen step up in a big way.

I have full confidence that DP would have beaten his own bucknell team while coaching our roster back when they played each other.

The only place we have any kind of depth or experience is at the four with Marko and Royal.

Also, unless Moore becomes a much better perimeter shooter and Mayimba can shoot lights out, if a team can shut down Holloway our entire 3-point threat is gone.

That's true except for the PF spot, where we have a RS senior, a true senior and a RS junior.

Good luck to DP making sense of this roster.

Maybe we will get lucky and every team will double Thompson and Holloway.

Thanks for the explanation, I too had been curious where all the expectations for Mayimba contributing significantly were coming from. My past experience as a fan has made me skeptical of such evaluations of players who have yet to play.

Until I hear otherwise I'll just assume that Mayimba is eligible, Halloway/Marko/Royal make the senior leap (or at least 2 of those 3), Moore improves his outside shot (he improved significantly from year 1 to 2, which is a solid indication of improvement from 2 to 3) and Thompson is alive and healthy which will allow me to have cautious optimism for the rest of the summer that we will win more than 5 games next year.

Been away for quite a bit. Are we in danger of losing Jenkins??:bigwhiner:
