What does another terrible season, followed by a canning, do for any future TV or media work? If he walked now, he could say he had a winning record here, claim 2 "good" seasons followed by a tough move to the A-10 and be off to TV land.

His only real chance to ever be a HC is to resign. If he does it now...he can say I got back in too quick, wasnt ready, some family issues came up, etc etc. Take some time off on TV and then he can come back.

If he rides this contract to termination, he's done coaching on a large scale....but can still do TV.

If I was his agent I would tell him to resign....

If Hewitt has any class whatsoever, he'll take a buyout of 50 cents on the dollar and walk away.

By now, it has to be painfully obvious to him that he is not going to get it done here, so what's the point in delaying the inevitable by 1 season?

Getting fired twice in a 5-year span, as KA noted, will make it basically impossible for Hewitt to ever be anything better than a very low (think MEAC or SWAC level) D-I head coach ever again.

Unless he's living like it's Hammer Time, he doesn't need this job for the money. Dave Braine at GT made sure Hewitt's family was set for life even if he had never coached again.

I know this is going to sound self-serving because I wanted him gone nearly from the moment he was hired, but it truly is better for all involved -- coach, players, fans -- for him to resign and allow our new president to bring in somebody to fix this unholy mess.

That guy does deserve some serious props for throwing that in. No coach is going to be fired before the conference tournaments, so it was a given Hewitt was going to make that bonus regardless of how bad he was. You have to wonder if people on our side even looked at or questioned that part of the contract. Too funny.

I said all year I'd throw out my 75% opinion on Hewitt after the season. As I told Patriot Club folks last year, this year was a big year in terms of direction and what we really had in Hewitt in my opinion.

Not gonna lie but I think hes not the long term answer. I saw nothing of the last year that makes me want Mason to keep him as a Coach, which is a shame because I think hes a good liaison for the school. I cant understand how after 3 years, and the same team back for a 2nd year, you can't grab a few more wins. I know games were very close, but to come out like last night, lack energy and lose like that? Crazy.

He gets one more year, but the writing is on the wall at this point, barring some miracle turnaround. I dont expect him to stick after next year.

Given how they seemed to look past all the "red flags" or at least "concerns" regarding the candidate in the first place, I wouldnt be so sure that they went over the contract that detailed either.

Id even be curious if they thought that they were getting him for a steal lol.....

We have all been giving Cabrera a pass. If no action is taking soon, he no longer will get the benefit of the doubt from me. It is starting to look like he is nothing more than an affirmative action hire with very little substance who will likely hire Kelly Mehrtens to replace O'Connor.

The Hewitt contract is so ridiculous. Your are not willing to commit more money to a proven winner, but in the end decide to pay an ACC bust more than Larranaga got at Mason. (because he coached in the ACC and people had heard of him I presume)

We could have gotten these results for a lot less money. I'm sure the stats in Hewitt's program bio next year will be twisted in a feeble attempt to make his resume look impressive. 24+22+11=57 though, so at least they can't come with "Has averaged 20 wins a year while at Mason."
