Mason Madness is right around the corner as is the open scrimmage. So, it's time for the annual season prediction thread. I go into the year with modest expectations for improvement given our youth. We were 11 - 21 overall and 5 - 13 in the A10 last season. My early prediction for this year is 14 - 17 overall and 7 - 11 in conference. Discuss.

Non-conference: 10-3
Conference: 8-10
Overall: 18-13

Could be a couple games better or a couple games worse, but our OOC schedule is soft and I see only three OOC games in which we will be decided underdogs: Houston, at UNI and at Penn St.

The back 9 of our A-10 schedule could be brutal if LaSalle and Fordham are any good.

Overall, I expect to keep moving along gradually in the right direction. We have terrific coaches and a number of very promising young players. Just gonna take some time.

Roughly same as last year, probably up three games out of conference but down one or even in conference. The young guys make huge improvements but we suffer from lack of second chance points from Shevons rebounding.

My optimistic self says .500 record overall and in conference, but more realistically I'm expecting slightly below .500 with continued peaks and valleys, but hopefully a gradual increase in consistency from last year and continually as the season progresses.

Its going to be a lot like 2009-2010 when there were 10 underclassmen on the team. At times the team will look really good and then randomly will drop off.

That said its a tougher league, so obviously they probably wont win as much. I expect a 2-4 game improvement overall, which puts the squad around .500 and hopefully out of the play in game in Brooklyn. Those few things=success

14-17 overall 7 Conference wins. maybe 8 depending on how GW looks this year without greasy slimeball as their coach. I have us splitting with GW this year but not giving us a win vs Fordham. I cant do it until we prove we can actually beat them. Either way this would be an improvement. I dont see us taking any steps backwards and even without Shavon's rebounding I see a couple game improvement with maturity and work ethic of the squad.

Do you know anything about any of those teams or are you just assuming for some reason that we're going to suck?

Do you know anything I don't that will get us a better record? Please share. Do you remember how badly this team shot the ball last season? Add to that losing a nation leading rebounder who masked big problems.

14-19 overall after we finally get a win in the A-10 tourney and bow out in the second game.

Lasalle is supposed to be much better this year with the transfers they brought in.

It's all about the second half of this season. I'm expecting a rough start but the team starting to show good signs in Feb. All I want this year is to get out of the first round of the A10 tourny. We have yet to do so and I expect it this year

Gee thanks for your wisdom with this post. To piggy back off your well thought out comment, what makes you so sure we are doing better than last year or are you just assuming we are going to be awesome sauce? Thanks.

It was a serious question.

I was (and still am) wondering if there is something about those programs that makes you think we're going to lose at home to Towson, JMU and Mercer.

As for my optimism, it is rooted in the fact that we have one of the best coaches in the A-10, a senior big man who was an A-10 all-rookie pick, the best young point guard and several other promising kids who will give us backcourt depth in a guards' league.

I'll hang up and listen.
