A team that's only run by money isn't going to be that good, because there are plenty of things that money can't tell you.

The only thing that stopping your donations will do is prove that our fanbase is a pathetic front running fair weather group.

Our athletic department is 85 percent funded by student fees. If every person stopped donating it won't change the calculus much and in fact will just make it harder to fire Hewitt early. What you will do is guarantee he is here for 5 years.

That may be the case, but what irritates me is the calls to donate money to make your vote heard. It's obvious what the common vote from this board would be: to fire Hewitt. But if that's the right thing to do, it should happen independent of what the money says. To me, the idea of pay-to-use-common-sense is a put-off rather than encouragement.

You always hear this kind of stuff, but its such crap.

So to be a fan, you have to spend your money regardless of whether the AD/Coach/Team is listening to you, or doing a good job or you support their decisions? That to me seems like you would only make it easier for nobody to be held accountable.

I am a Mason grad, supporter and fan...period. Simply because I dont renew season tickets and send my yearly donation to another department does not make me, or anybody else part of a " pathetic front running fair weather group"

You know something Patriotfan49?

The second this program starts winning again?

You'll be running back like a pathetic front runner claiming to be a diehard fan...

What is your point?

I live out of the area.

I'm allowed to criticize Patriotfan49 if I want to. He's not a sacred cow.

You either stick with the team through the wins and losses or you don't.

simple as that.

I frankly think the guy is F-I-C-K-L-E and a fickle fanbase really doesn't help our long term program aspirations.

GIVING DAY 2023
I mean I get your point, but the product on the floor has to match how much enjoyment I get out of it.

I'm with you, I don't think canceling my donations or my season tickets is going to help the program at all. But I do think I might just get a Saturday plan next year if Hewitt is still here and drop my donation to the minimum. Probably cancel my extra seat as well because I'm having a harder time trying to fill it unless my girlfriend has the night off.

I'm not satisfied and it's not worth it for me to sit in traffic for 1+ hour(s) to go watch the Hewitt shit show. I haven't been a fan of how this team has played since he got here, I don't think we're going to get any better under his leadership and unless he proves me otherwise I'm going to be critical. I'm not happy. As a George Mason Fan, for life, I'm not happy.

I don't blame other people who are unhappy for canceling their tickets, or not going to games, etc. I don't go to Redskins games anymore because I'm dissatisfied with the product on the field--why should someone go to Mason games if they're not satisfied with what's happening on the court?

lol you are funny.....sticks and stones homie.

So you are calling somebody else who actually spends their money and donates to the program, meanwhile you dont (newsflash you dont have to be in the area to donate btw) a fairweather fan? Seems kinda weightless coming from somebody who claims fanhood but wont open his own checkbook....like somebody complaining about the President when they dont even vote.

I dont have an issue with losing, and enduring long seasons.....I went through that with the 49ers for almost a decade and never bailed. But when you see a light at the end of the tunnel and something slowly being built it makes it worth it to stick around and easier to stomach the product in the mean time.

Like I said, I support Mason financially and have since I graduated (which is more than you can say) and what I do with my money is my call. I will continue to do so (maybe you should start). Im there most every home game, and have been since I was a freshman. If I feel cancelling my season tickets, and using that money elsewhere or just giving it to another department ontop of a donation...who are you to say anything? Im not abandoning my school or the team....I just found it was better for me to use my money in another angle.

I suggest before you open your mouth and try and act tough and big on the internet, that you actually practice what you are preaching....or else it just seems like a little dog nipping at your heels.

Where is this rule that says you have to stick with your team no matter what? Loving the game of basketball is one thing but who says I need to keep supporting an athletic program that is clearly poorly managed and not fun to watch. Last time I checked team sports is entertainment and quite frankly Mason Basketball is not entertaining. I'm guessing Raider thinks everyone in NoVA should keep showing up with their pom-poms and happy faces while we lose miserably at home and everywhere else. Better yet lets all send some stern emails to TOC and Blewitt. I'm sure he'll read every one of them while they wallow around in their beds made of student fees, tax dollars, and donor cash. If fickle means I'm not going sit here and be miserable while the Hewitt train derails and find something better to do with my life, fine I'm fickle. Whatever.

I'll START donating to Mason when I'm in the position to donate.

But hey... no matter what I say you'll criticize.

Last night was piss and vinegar--pure and simple--no sugar coating it. IMO everyone associated with the program is responsible. As my wife and I left the gym last night she turned to me and said I know you are angry and frustrated but you can't give up on this team now or in the future.

I understand the money proposition that folks are talking about. But ultimately I want to be there for the kids that are busting their asses to do the best they can. The program situation will be dealt with hopefully sooner rather than later. However, part of the success of any program is its support from its fan base and I cannot see turning away from the program irrespective of what bad decisions have been made in the past.

As my name denotes, I have been a Pat fan for some time and there have been leaner years than this. This program actually needs us now more than when we were winning. Have a problem with the coach or AD? Take it up with the AD or President. But having your dollars walk, in my humble opinion, only hurts the program you love and exacerbates our problem in the short and long haul.

What you do with your money is your call. I wont criticize you in spending it how you see fit.....much like you are doing. Remember you were the one who jumped out of the woodwork to criticize what I do......

Like I said, I dont think you have any room to speak about people's donations when you dont even donate, have season tickets or attend games.

Continuing to support a dysfunctional program physically or financially only shows the University that you support the decisions they are making. Unless you have direct contact with TOC and the like in what way can a student body and alumni effectively communicate that they are not happy? An empty arena and tanking contributions is a pretty clear sign of discontent and needed change.

So if youve voiced your opinions to the AD before, and things continue. As a fan, what other leverage do you have to show you are serious?

People need to understand pulling donations or season tickets has nothing to do with supporting the kids on the floor or level of fanhood. Even though they are maddening to watch, I still support each guy suiting up and will always do so. However, as many have said this is also a business and its bad business to not listen to your investors....and sometimes, to get their attention you have to show them you mean what you say. .

Id gladly sit here and go 0 for in the A10 for if we had a young coach and we knew the future was bright but it might take a few seasons to get off the ground and going....thats not what we have here, and I worry the bright spots we do have are going to be wasted under the current coach.

Enjoy watching the games on your laptop or TV. That's your personal choice.

However, I think we both know that if this team was winning you would have re-upped your tickets in a heartbeat.

and I think that says something...

If you want to come running back when we start winning? Feel free.

But don't claim you "Love the team" when you bailed after one bad year.
