He was the runner up for the Hornets job recently. I am a little surprised that he hasn't landed a HC job yet.

An image that I can’t get rid of from the first couple games of the year -

Paulsen standing at midcourt screaming at his guards “45” (our full court man press) after a made basket or dead ball. He constantly had to scream it and motion to our guys to press up. This leads me to believe the players were either not bought in, didn’t know or forgot. All of the above are bad.

Everyone knows how hard it is to implement the full court press identity, and that’s why By George wanted to see it practiced in previous years..even under-matched and undersized. I knew from talking to DP, he was never a pack line guy solely. DP actually coaches to his talents and strengths. People have screamed at us “SMALL BALL” yet we snagged a flat footed unathletic center transfer and watched Abram and Karmari leave..I’m not shocked at the lack of identity based on what I’ve observed but the truth is, I’ve bought into many of what you DP fanboys have preached. I bought in to you but not only of what you’ve said though but also because of what I’ve seen in practice and our improvements under DP.

I’ll never forget, however, DP yelling orders to players and players either not listening or confused AF. I thought, if nothing else, we’d play sound basketball. That’s not the case.

If we are correct that he is on contract through 2022 (I could have sworn I saw he was extended after last year but can’t find anything about it)
So, if we were to fire him at the end of this year’s contract, we would owe him $600k.

When DP’s contract was extended, other provisions in his contract may have been amended as well, including the buyout language.

That is possible, but, the original article indicated the initial contract had two option years on it and we have extended him twice for a total of two years. Surprisingly, we did not extend him after last year after his best season. Given that, I suspect that we exercised the two option years of the original contract and avoided the need to renegotiate an entirely new contact.

You can see the lack of cohesion and a plan on the offensive side of the ball, too. Otis will drive, the defense will collapse, he’ll kick it to where he thinks a teammate will be and they will be nowhere close. That shouldn’t be happening with players who have played so many games together already.

That, to me, is the biggest disappointment, not our limitations, which were always there, but the unforced errors, the lazy play, the confused play, the lack of execution.

If you know so much more than them, why don't you offer to help them out and contribute to their product? We'll all hold our breath waiting for that to happen.

After watcbing the last 2 emerald classic games against cincy and baylor, it's exactly what I was thinking.

Dp hasn't been able to recruit players to fit his system. All of sudden, he is changing his defensive scheme 4 games into season. The problem is that he doesn't have the players to fit a pressing system either.

When you look at what keith dambrot is doing at Dusquene in less than 1 1/2 seasons, a school which has not been to an ncaa since 1970 vs. Dp's 4 seasons at Mason. Well, you gotta think it's time for a change.

If mason does, in fact, decide to go in a different direction next season. I would suggest Mason go after Bucknell Head Coach, Nathan Davis.

Yes, I know Paulsen came from Bucknell but Davis was a great coach out of Randolph-Macon before Bucknell. He comes from the Hal Nunally coaching tree which includes Gregg Marshall, the head coach at Witchita State.

It’s called a show me contract. Miller was making 400k at Dayton when he was hired. It escalated real quick.

I think people would be surprised if they knew how many hours (and money) we actually put into this. We’re meeting with Zach Bolno in 2 weeks.

We know our opinion is not always the popular one and it will invite some trolling but we appreciate ya Joe Shannon and others who have defended us.

First of all, what exactly has Dambrot done other than bring Duquesne back from the garbage heap to respectability? That’s exactly what DP has done here.

Secondly, DP hasn’t had four seasons. Still at least 25 games left in his Year 4 at Mason and a lot of time left before the final evaluation of this season is written.

Let’s pump the brakes a little and see what happens before we draw conclusions that might look stupid as hell three months from now.
