So... Too Early to Talk About Next Year?

Those were the two I was referencing. I’d personally take the two that paulsen didn’t choose. Would have loved both young and XJ instead of daddy but who am I to question it. All I know is Young was a baller this year and I personally saw Paar take Oduro to school at GW.

Of course you forgot to mention Oduro's performance against GW when we played them at home. Josh has one of his best games while your boy Paar was stuck to the bench in foul trouble. You are the worst.

@Dawgs99 I didn't watch the GW home game as I was working in California that week. I am glad Oduro had his best game then. Didn't see it, didn't look it up so I don't comment on things like that. I comment on what I personally see or know. Sorry I missed that game, wish I could have seen more than 1 live where Oduro was effective.

Your hard on for Oduro is really out of control. All summer you bagged on this kid so bad. You said he had no business playing D1 basketball. Then he has a pretty effective freshmen year and still go out of your way to trash him. I don't get it? Almost everyone on the boards was pleasantly surprised by josh this year, me in particular. It's one thing to wish we landed one play over another, but you seem incapable of taking an objective look at Josh. You made up your mind that Josh is garbage and no matter what he does you won't come off it. You act like basketball authority on here....what exactly are you're credentials anyway?

You did? I saw Paar mostly standing in the middle of the paint doing jack squat. He had a couple of decent moves in the first half, but Oduro didn't play a lot in their first game.

Did you watch the second game? Paar 1-4, with 4 fouls. Oduro had 13 and 11 in the second game.

Also, on taking both Young and XJ, that would be too many PGs on the same team, especially PGs on the smaller side. You certainly wouldn't have targeted Ronald Polite for 2020 if you had Hartwell, Young, and XJ on the team; probably wouldn't be targeting Darius Johnson now for 2021.

Dady is a 2/3 and 6'6. Whether he works out remains to be seen, but he's an entirely different kind of player than Young.

If you would ever actually read I said I didn't watch a second of the GW at Mason game. glad I didn't because it was another loss to an extra shitty team.
Super stoked for Josh going off in that game.

Young is a 3point shooter that hit at over 37% a clip and shot almost as many 3's as 2's. He is also only 6 foot 1. He is not a traditional point guard nor does he need to play there. We have nobody currently on our squad that fills the role that Young could have at Mason. I am sure having someone that can actually shoot on the team wouldn't be a downfall since we have no surplus in scoring.

A lineup of XJ, Young, Javon, Jordan, and AJ down the stretch of games would have been great to see. Unfortunately he recruited a 6 foot 6 kid that has 5 years of organized basketball to add to our bin full of project players.

if that was a pretty effective freshman year to you with all the playing time and on court experience he gathered then we can certainly end the conversation. Other freshman big men with less opportunity and playing time achieved much better stats and actually looked like they knew how to play defense. I hope he is a 10pt 6 rebound guy next year but it is just not going to happen. We STILL year 6 have not recruited an A-10 level 5 and then we constantly put our 3's and 4's out of position and lose shitty basketball games.

Against which teams would you play that lineup? SLU, Duquense, URI, Dayton? You want to talk about getting wrecked in the paint.

down the stretch my friend where our lineup was smaller with Jamal, XJ, Javon, Miller, AJ. We were already doing it against the aforementioned teams with smaller players that can't score. We should never have to play a lineup like this in crunch time but have to because we are filled with sub par 5's. Young instead of Hartwell increases roster size by 3 inches lol

Paulsen doesn't play Oduro, Calixte or Mar when we need to score at the end of games. And rightly so.

We actually played a lot of Miller, Mar, AJ in the frontcourt down the stretch of some games at the end of the season. I don't remember seeing a lot of Javon, XJ, Hartwell combos on the court together (XJ, Javon, Miller and then XJ, Hartwell, Miller mostly).

so we agree Calixte and Oduro were benched down the stretch of games right? So you are telling me the coach put in Goanar for offensive possessions instead of Hartwell/XJ or Javon? You must only be remembering games where Hartwell was hurt or Javon was suspended because that is just flat out wrong. I think even Jimmy would call for Paulsen's head if Paulsen played Mar over any of those three guards down the stretch or in crucial moments.

I'd love for one of our stat guys on here (Pablo?) to compare numbers from other freshmen bigs we've had over the last 15 years. I really have no idea how josh would stack up but would love to see the numbers.....Mins, points, rebounds, and blocks.

Pointless to compare with DP's weird roster construction. Oduro had almost no competition at the five to get playing time. Imagine what a freshman Jai Lewis would have done in this situation?

Other than the Umass kid, what other freshmen 5's were head and shoulders better? I'm asking because I really don't know. Again, I'm no Josh Oduro fan boy I just think you have, for over a year now unfairly hammered this kid. Josh certainly has enough offensive game to score 10pts a game next year. I honestly can't think of a freshmen 5 that we've had in the last 20 years that was more polished in the paint than Josh. I do think we can agree that he is a marginal athlete at best and this is probably why he didn't have a more impressive offer sheet coming out of HS.

Its not pointless at all just average things out by minutes played.

Yep, it’s not rocket science.

Also, the vast majority of our best bigs historically played in the CAA so good luck making an apples to apples comparison.

Mar freshman year playing 3-4 was significantly better. Otherwise I can’t tell you. All of our other freshman bigs have sucked. Danny Dixon, Temara, relvao, Greg etc

You’re exactly right. Can’t make a comparison with any other paulsen freshman big because they either didn’t play or sucked or a combination of both. Easy to do around the league though where there is no comparison. I’ll do it later

Not saying I would rather have him, but was Jared Kimbrough a guy that Paulsen passed over for someone else, or did he just straight up pick La Salle over us?

He picked La Salle and then got recruited over by Ed Croswell. We definitely wanted him.
