Tom,
While we all know you hate Hewitt, it's like a broken record reading your posts about how we should fire him. You hate Hewitt, we get it, but he isn't going anywhere this year so stop bringing down every thread about firing him. Just be happy to see some new players come in and drop the ball like the last batch. ;)

Haha, this made me laugh. Well played. I'll obviously pull for Hewitt to succeed if he is our coach, but my main hope is that Edwards cuts bait sooner rather than later if he has already come to the conclusion that he does want to make a change.

If Edwards has already made up his mind about firing Hewitt, I hope he does it this summer after the new recruits are already acclimated.

Really doubt Edwards comes in and fires Hewitt instantly. We're are stuck with him for another season. Plus if he was fired in July/August who is available to replace him anyway at that point?

I don't know who is available. I'm sure there's a hot up and coming coach somewhere that is willing to make the jump. Bigger question is does Edwards think its disrespect to fire the old AD's guy, while the old AD is still "working" at the school? If he did, that's pretty much like putting his nuts on the table and telling everyone to start licking.

This is a very good point and the reason why I think we still have Hewitt for '14-'15.

I think he will be fair to Hewitt. Not that he deserves it imo, but I think he'll say look little guy, you have a new team. You aren't gonna win much next year and I won't put much into that, but if I don't see the growth towards a winning team i.e., chemistry, players having fun, hustle, defense, consistency etc, then your a** is grass. And if you cost us wins b/c of coaching, then your probably gonna be grass before the season is over.

I think this is fair and not a lot to ask of a guy who makes close to a million bucks per year.

All valid points, although it wouldn't be unprecedented to make a quick change like GW's AD did a few years ago. Heck, I hope Hewitt is here another five years, because at least it means we will have a winning program. Hewitt is not Edwards' guy, so there will be a very short leash after this season. Like GS said, there has to be some indication we are moving in the right direction.

Assuming that Hewitt didn't order staff to burn the game films from the last 2 seasons, it wouldn't take Edwards long to evaluate whether Hewitt has done a good job leading our program. All he needs to do is sit back and watch.

Other than the financial hit of having to eat the final 2 years of Hewitt's deal, I see no reason why Edwards wouldn't want to get his own guy on the job as quickly as possible.

Keeping Hewitt on for one more season is just delaying the inevitable. The guy isn't just going to wake up tomorrow and become an excellent basketball coach.

If Edwards fires Hewitt this summer, I will pay for a group of Flamenco Dancers to follow Angel Cabberra around for all of Mason Day.

Only if Edwards has a guy already in mind that he knows he can get and who might not be available after next season will he shank Hewitt this summer. Otherwise we have one more season before good-guy-bad-coach Paul Hewitt can finally take his lovely wife on that island vacation.

Patrick Nero knew when he took over at GW that Karl Hobbs was not going to be his men's basketball coach for the long term, so he fired him and got a huge upgrade in Lonergan.

Mike Waddell wasted little time hiring Pat Skerry to replace the trenchcoat-less Pat Kennedy. That one has worked out pretty well for Towson, I'd say.

Those are just 2 examples, obviously, but both are local teams and both benefited tremendously from having leaders take decisive action.

Instead of essentially throwing away what could be a valuable transition year with a fairly young team, why not bring in a new coaching staff now?

Do you think an incoming class of 5 might sway Edwards to keep Hewitt this season? If all 5 want to bolt upon Hewitt's axing our roster will be in terrible shape.

Two reasons are timeframe and money. He cant fire anyone till july 1st. Unless he makes TOC do it now.

Both of those examples were new coaches who were hired in April. With how big recruiting is during the summer months I still find it unlikely Hewitt gets axed in July/August time frame.

What if he brings the recently hired jacksonville coach? Im sure his team had a better assist ratio at iupuw or whatever it is. We were ranked 300th. Cliff warrens losing team that got him fired were ranked 130th in assists.

I believe that only President Cabrera has the authority to fire the men's basketball coach. And, I don't see this happening before the end of next season.

Yea, but if Edwards tells him he's got his man now...well ya never know. Unlikey, but there's a slither of a chance.
