Preseason Poll - Mason voted 10th

Preseason polls are meaningless but the projected 10th place finish is no doubt due to: 1. The loss of Marquise and Jalen. 2. We have no seniors on the roster. 3. We only have 9 scholarship players. 4. We do not have a proven big man to hold down the post. We have the potential to finish higher if our freshmen can contribute in a meaningful way and if Otis and Jaire have stellar seasons. Let's lace them up and start playing.

Not unexpected. Here is to hoping Greene and Calixte turn some heads just like Kier, Boyd, and Newman last year.

I think Boyd has the potential to be as good, if not better than Marquise, by the time he's done. Physically already a man.

Tenth seems fair with many question marks, but I do predict Otis finishes higher than 3rd team

Our 2 seniors graduating and having no seniors this year, I get. But Our juniors have played more mins than MM & JJ. Only question mark is our post play. Add in the fact new coaches are at Dayton, GW, artschool of ghetto town, and one can strongly argue 10th is too low. We can prove them wrong, again.

I might be in the minority, but from what ive seen of AJ, I think he easily replaces JJ and then some. Add in Mar and the rest of our guards and there isnt much drop off. Who can replace Moore's points will be key.

You may be right with AJ, at least long term. Not sure if the offense will be there initially - but definitely possible.

For replacing Moore, it's going to have to be group effort, couple points more from Otis/Jaire/Kier/Boyd and we may be able to cover the loss. Would also make us a more balanced team - but don't get me wrong, not saying it will be easy, definitely happen or that I wouldn't rather have Moore still.

I think that's a fair ranking. I also think we'll exceed it. I am hopeful AJ is able to replace JJ, but it will take time. I really liked Jalen's passing game last year, and that just takes time to develop. Down low is a huge question mark, but in two years... man we're looking good.

I know this much for sure, we're going to be a MUCH better defensive team than we were last season.

AJ is already the most natural, explosive shot-blocker we've had since Big George. Between AJ, Calixte and Mar, we have length and athleticism up front and will no longer have to play a 6-4 guy at the 4 spot.

We won 20 games and went 9-9 in the A-10 with a 6-7 center and nobody else taller than 6-4 in the rotation.

Considering the current state of the A-10, I don't see how anyone thinks we finish below where we did last season.

I think saying we'll drop in the standings is more than fair. SJU last year may as well have just not counted their season because of how bad injuries hurt them. Davidson returns some big players. La Salle finished a game below us and we have to go there this year. I'm not saying we will drop from 7th, but I don't think it's outlandish for someone to predict we will.

That being said I think our style of play will take a step forward. As you've said, the defense won't be nearly so porous at times. It will be a far more balanced approach than Moore+whoever is hot on a given night,
