Predict the Next Coach Pool

If I were Prohm, while I might interview at Mason sooner rather than later, I'd wait to decide what comes of the Alabama spot (not likely to clear up until Wichita St is eliminated). That's at least a week away. He'd still be an in-demand guy next year even if Edwards gives him an ultimatum to decide before that. I think that the Mason job is desirable, but not so desirable that an equivalent job won't be available next year as well.

With the high expectations of Bama Mason would be more favorable for him. We should have all of our wives meet him at a hotel and give him the ganbamg of his life.

Did we really need a search firm? Or was that to quell the nervousness created by the previous hire?

I heard Feinstein today disagreeing with us hiring one. Said Brad should handle it bc we dont have football. whatever that means. ...Bobby Cremins said we should call Jimmy L and ask for his advice....lol. For guys paid to follow college basketball they are so clueless sometimes.

Search Firm, meh. What a great scam.

Probably, but they also do extensive background searches on the qualified candidates they find. With our very narrow search last time around, I'm okay with erring on the side of caution as long the money doesn't come out of the same pool of money we're paying our next coach from.

PiKapp, I'm OK with my wife participating in a Prohm gangbang for the good of the program, but I have to draw the line at a ganbamg.

That sh!t's just gross, man.

Does everyone think we have a good shot at getting Prohm? I would love him to be our next head coach especially after watching his last 2 games in the NIT but I personally don't think we have a chance. If he leaves Murray State (which I think he will) he's gonna get paid from someone more than we have to offer. Potential Coaches looking at our opening will probably see total rebuild in a good multibid conference.
I love Mason and I want the best coach that BBB can land us, swing for the fences. I just hope our 2, 3, and 4 targets aren't signing elsewhere while we are swinging at strike 1.

I was thinking we might get him until that most recent article was posted about him turning down $1M from Mississippi State. At this point, I am going to stop getting my hopes up.

I might be a raging homer but I don't see Mason as a "complete rebuild." We have a solid program and a roster that's full of talent in a great recruiting area. We just had a coach who was in a waking coma for the past four years. A coach who knows what he's doing could start winning in year two.

I also think that we could get him at the right price as he would be in a better media market than Mississippi State and well not be in Mississsippi.

We could offer comparable money and sell Mason as a better stepping stone than other open offers. He gives us 3-4 years we will be humming.

I've always considered Prohm a long shot. I think I'm more accepting of this because there just isn't a ton of competition out there for coaches this year.

They may not get the hottest guy, who may opt to stay another year betting that more opportunities come available next year, but they should have no problem finding a damn good coach, especially relative to Hewitt.

Exactly. Normally we wouldn't have a chance at Prohm. And maybe we still don't. He has to be upset that he couldn't make it into the tourney with his record and with such a good team. Does he wait for better jobs by staying at Murray State one more year? Is he waiting for his alma mater? What if Alabama goes in a different direction? Can BBB find $1M to throw at him? I give it 30% chance we can get him. That is a higher chance than we should have normally. So I will take that.

I am not worried because our Plans C, D or E will still be there in this buyers market. And all are promising and less expensive.

I say no. The unfortunate answer is...we can pay pretty well......but here's the left over rub from the Larranaga fiasco......facilities and investments.

Those things matter to coaches now. A rumor I hear is players CANNOT have access to the RAC outside of business hours when it is unstaffed (esp with the PC being tough to get into in non practice times). Simple things like that will make a good coach ask "wtf is going on here?"

Im not saying we need a dedicated practice facility, etc....but if you cant give players full access to a court when they want....then we suck. Wofford is building a 30-40M arena...for a school of 1600. What is Mason doing?

Now maybe Edwards is putting a whole new plan together to sell to the new coach. We can pay decent, we are in a great league, we have a great market...but my concern to the professional eye is that one can look at Mason and say "they are just getting by."

I think this is more likely. And if BBB sees the RAC situation as an impediment - he will make that fix because it is easy- just change the policy and give his a** the keys to the RAC.

Mason has a lot of other things going for it that make it far more attractive than his current position and even the Woffords of the world.

It is not a lock but I like the 30% shot.

I am in total agreement. When I heard the story about the RAC (evidently TOC turned over to student services or something..and not the AD...and SS said no access....I was like are you kidding me?)

Anyway, as you point out we have to sell what we do have going. The name of the game for coaches is to feel wooed....that hoops is important and NOT THE SIDE DOOR.

I put our chances at 25%, with most likely we actually land a coach from 2nd/3rd tier of choices out there. Im close to going all in on Moton to satisfy the diversity requirement.

Maybe we can prove basketball isn't the side door by having the ladies of Mason offering their back door to the man.

I would argue Cabrera and BBB have made it clear that athletics are the front door to the University. Even saying as much. The move to thebA10 being one indicator.

I am not saying we don't get Prohm. I just don't know if as much of the upside we see at Mason is visible to a prospective coach that has a couple days to evaluate us. If BE lands Prohm, he will have earned his BBB nickname. So, I am just saying that I am now tempering my expectations. I had my heart ripped out after falling in love with the Howland idea. I then fell in love with the Prohm idea, but that seems like a very distant chance given what we know to date.

If we don't hear something by Monday or we start to see what would seem to be our Tier B options start to accept new positions, that is when I start to have some real concern. That would be when we are outside of the normal window for Parker to find a new coach. My concern won't be that we won't get a good coach, just that we won't be getting one that erases all doubt that we have landed the right guy.
