Please Not Adidas, Please Not Adidas...

ODU pulls in almost $400,000 from UA: http://hamptonroads.com/2015/03/under-armour-contract-worth-nearly-400000-odu

We won't get that much because we don't have football, but it's interesteing to see the breakdown of ODU's contract.

Really, the school doesn't get much at all. It just means they will have a lot more gear for their athletes to wear. Uniform credit? Yippie.

It's better than what Nike gave them, but not much of windfall in my mind. And other sports just get 50% off??

Would you rather pay for the equipment, or get the equipment for free?

Now if we can just add the naming rights to the Patriot Center in the deal, we would be all set. The Under Armour Center sounds pretty good.

Uniform credits is how these deals work, especially for schools not named Duke, Michigan, Texas and Notre Dame. I applaud ODU on the deal and hope we can get something similar, but as Dr Gunnie said, without football, we wouldn't get to ODU's level.

Let me think. Um, free?

And "Under Armour Arena" has a nice ring to it. We could put a big logo at half court if it means a buyout.

If we got near the $200,000 mark, I think that would be pretty good for us without football. ODU's deal was just for football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Our will be for all sports, so maybe we can get close to half of what ODU's getting.

I think UA would be able to outfit all of our other teams - they just started with wrestling uniforms (athough, UA doesn't really make most of their uni's, they use other vendors and they put the UA logo on them).

Here are the catalogs: http://www.uateamcatalogs.com/

If I read the article right it looks like the other teams would get a 50% discount on unis (I assume shoes, too). I just don't want adidas, although if Run-DMC performed at halftime I could be swayed.

Just introduced my son to Run-DMC with a little "My Adidas" yesterday.

Adidas just got bounced by the NBA. So they will be hurting for new business and that lost revenue..... bargain basement prices!

Actually I always thought Under Armour was a terrible corporate name. Conjurs up an unpleasant smell.
Same here. Anytime I read the name, I think Under Arm-Od-our. I don't know if the Under Arm Odor Center would be a good name for the Pat Center, but if they sell the naming rights for enough, I guess anything is game.

It sounds like it's a good time to be looking for a new contract:

"Instead of its NBA deal, Adidas said it wants to invest in the other stuff: A bigger roster of star players, more marketing and product development, and deeper investments in high school and college teams, like the University of Miami, which this year announced a 12-year contract with Adidas. The company said recently it also wants to ink endorsement deals with as many as 500 more pro football and baseball players."

Why would adidas want Kevin Durant and LeBron James wearing their gear, when they can have Michael Rudy and Miles Tate!?! :)
