exactly where I thought we'd be. 67 has us right in the discussion. We could be close to 50 if we win the next two OOC games heading into the conference schedule. Too bad Bracket Busters isn't still around.

The A-10 refused to participate in BracketBusters (they aren't a mid-major conference). It's too bad they didn't...might have still been around if they did.

With a little effort, some form of it could be.
Let's take the A10/MWC Challenge. Instead of playing the games in November with pre-determined match ups, why not use the Bracket Busters model? Keep Friday, Feb 21st or Saturday, Feb 22nd as an open date for the Challenge. In early Feb the conferences put together the best match ups for Quad 1 wins.

And/Or

Tweak the A10 scheduling. Instead of playing 5 A10 home-and-homes and 8 solos, play 4 home-and-homes and 9 solos. Leave Saturday, Feb 29th as a TBD game. In early Feb the conference matches teams that can help keep the NET higher to give opportunities for another quality win. Example- we are only scheduled to play Saint Louis once this year. Lets assume the NET stays as it is today. Our TBD game becomes at SLU to give each team another Quad 1 opportunity. I think CUSA does something similar.

Dayton looks right, the rest doesn't make sense

NET vs. RPI*

Dayton NET: 10, RPI: 11
Duquesne NET: 20, RPI: 66
Richmond NET: 22, RPI: 31
vcu NET: 52, RPI: 121
Saint Louis NET: 66, RPI: 54
George Mason: NET 67, RPI: 41
URI NET: 72, RPI: 43
Davidson NET: 101, RPI: 119
La Salle NET: 130, RPI: 53
UMass NET: 158, RPI: 158
St. Bona NET: 189, RPI: 150
St. Joes NET: 228, RPI: 221
GW NET: 235, RPI: 271
Fordham NET: 258, RPI: 306

So, not sure if either one makes any more sense than the other. If we were under the old system, big surprise would be how low vcu's RPI is (121) and how high La Salle's is (53). A-10 would still have 7 teams in the top 100.

*RPI numbers pulled from WarrenNolan

p.s. side note, Realtime RPI has us ranked as the 7th best conference, just edging out the AAC.

I've seen a few people say this recently and I have to say that at best the term "mid-major" is a moving target. Last years A10 was absolutely a mid-major.

Kyle Whelliston of Mid-Majority probably had the best definition of a mid-major conference, and it was defined it by resources and budget. He called it the red line. A mid-major conference was a conference where the majority of its members were below the red line.

Mid-Majority isn't around anymore, so the article defining it is gone, but in 2012, he had 8 major conferences (conferences where the majority of the teams had budgets above the red line), which would have included the A-10, since the Big East didn't split until 2013.

But ultimately it's about perception and the A-10 didn't want to be "perceived" as a mid-major conference so they decided not to participate in BracketBusters.

Point taken but I'd rather let people think what they want and have a game that helps get the conference one more team in the tournament.

Anyways, I think we all know the real solution to becoming a solid high-major conference is to expel Fordham and replace them with literally any other team.

I liked BracketBusters too, but the top of the A-10 doesn't seem to have a hard time scheduling in the OOC.

And, yeah, dropping Fordham would make us a stronger conference.

Fordham's a better fit for the Patriot League (which they were a member from 1990 -95 and currently a member for football).

Too good of ideas to actually be deployed.

RPI is a horrible indicator and I’m glad it has been done away with.

It's wild how slighted they get about any little thing. Obviously biased cause they're a rival, but even if they weren't I'd find them to be the most garbage fanbase in the A10. They lost their coach and half a recruiting class two years ago and nearly burned the internet down because they were left off the preseason top 25.

I only hope one day Mason gets to the level where we’re complaining about not being Preseason top 25, versus is our out of conference schedule good enough lol

UTEP transfer guard Evan Gilyard is eligible to play for New Mexico St. starting now. He averaged 13.6 ppg last year. Should help that team the rest of the way.
