(Official) Mrs. Russell Turner Thread

Speculation follows: Turner toured the campus on Friday. Visited with his family in Roanoke on Saturday. I assume his wife and kids joined him. Does he go back to Cali to talk to the AD and players and to decide? Or does he stay here IF he is going to accept job and can we expect a press conference today or tomorrow?

Oh he goes back to Cali to mull it over, no doubt. Talk to players, talk to the AD, see what counter they have for him.

I think his decision rests alot on the Mrs. and how she feels about it. She has an excellent position (ala Amaker's wife) and just to up and move would take alot.

Fortunately, they have ties to Virginia. And he took the time to come interview if reports are correct. So I think that is THE huge factor in this.

After watching that video.......he's everything most of us want.

But...I think its 50/50. The guy loves his current gig and location.

solid assessment. Brad has to sell him the upside of our location and conference to his longer term goals. If we land him I would be very happy and will personally drop off my 2015 donation check wearing my best suit.

I gave my donation the day they fired Hewitt. Didn't care about the replacement. Fear of the Known > Fear of the Unknown in this case

For those who think it's a slam dunk that a coach would leave his current position in a smaller conference, think back to when Coach L turned down the Providence job to stay at Mason. On paper, Providence seemed like a better job due to its much better conference, but Coach L felt like he could do bigger things at Mason and felt comfortable here.

I think the same thing applies to Prohm and some of these other names being thrown around. We can sell our program, the university, the area and our conference until we're blue in the face, but it ultimately will come down to a coach's comfort level with leaving the known for the unknown.

Agreed - although Coach L did leave for Miami as it was where he wanted to end up (Turner on East Coast Near Family?) and what he wanted to do career wise -(Coach in ACC). So if we have other hooks than larger conference and can tie to his long term career goals and family ties - we might have an edge.

I want it to be tough for our next coach to leave his current job. That might mean when a P5 school comes calling, he might turn it down if we have given him everything he needs to be successful. A coach needs at a minimum a multi bid conference. We now offer that.

Socal Frank, please tell us what style of basketball turner prefers to coach?
Ones that love to compete and do their job.

Incidentally, I remember some classic battles with the Herndon Hornets. Gaither Musgrove was the first 300 pounder I ever saw in a uniform.

I am liking what I see of Turner as I have been reading up on him and watching videos of him. I also like what I have seen from him and his players in interviews, even after losses.

But, I need to see what Herndon has to say before I jump entirely on the bandwagon. I believe Herndon had the most accurate prediction of how our previous coach would turn out. ;)

I don't disagree that some of that came into play, but his first motive was to say "F-ck you!" to TOC and Merten for not giving him another raise. Had he gotten the money he asked for, he never would have thrown his hat in the ring for the Miami job. Either way, I'm happy it worked out for him and his family.

Exciting. It's got to be Russell or Moton, right? Wonder how the boards will react if it's someone totally out of left field.

Everyone needs to needle Soccer Insider with PMs to see if he'll give up a name.

The only prediction I will make is that GMUHoops will break the news five minutes after somebody else actually breaks it. I also predict I won't know he "re-broke" the news since he blocks me from following him on Twitter. lol

Well he had just gotten a raise and then asked for another. So I think it had more to do with - I want to retire in God's waiting room. :write:
